Quality and thoroughness of human-use analysis and improvement suggestions

Reviewer 1:

The intro to the product sets up a nice backgorund and the range of quality and price on can get wiht this product.

The limitations section could have focused more on the design flaws that relate to the actual user experience. That is to say, as someone interact with a water kettle where in the process do they struggle? What parts of the experience are easy and fluid? This section could have included anecdotes and observations from users.

One user experience flaw that you highlighted is that users have a hard time gaging how much water to put into the kettle. Your redesign clearly responds to the issue as the design is focused on only heating the necessary water of the user. Additionally, you have really nice simple sketches that communicate your idea well and the versatility of the design.

Reviewer 2:

You did a great job of introducing the product and its variations. You also identified and explained problems with the product well. I thought your new design was thoughtful. Using a metal rod to heat up liquids instead of a bigger circular surface is clever because you want to minimize the surface area that could potentially burn a user (although I am thinking that it might require more energy to use a smaller surface area). The design itself is also sleek, which shows that you not only thought about function but also looks, which is beneficial to the user. The presentation of your new design is great since the drawings themselves are really clean their syntax was consistent.

Reviewer 3:

The author has a good rundown of the what a kettle does, and what kinds of needs different types of kettles meet. The author seemed to have done a thorough preliminary research into the background of kettles. On the other hand, I did not quite understand what the connection between the different kettles and the conclusion was. Which kettle did the author base the analysis and improvements on? In the future, it would be nice to highlight the different types of kettles but focus on one, or take aspects of other kettles into one kettle to create an effective solution. The limitations that were identified were very true, and I enjoyed how the author's experiences in daily life was incorporated into the limitations. However, I wanted to see and visualize how users typically use the kettle so that perhaps more problems/solutions can be identified from that analysis. The improvement was truly innovative and something that I have not thought about before. It addressed all of the limitations that were identified.

Reviewer 4:

Despite an everyday used device, Yan Yan analyzes many different tiers of electric kettles and effectively points out the problems that users have with it.

Perhaps Yan Yan could better illustrate the user experience with videos or actual interviews with users. This would help in seeing it from the user perspective.

The suggestions Yan Yan has recommended are relevant and help to mitigate the problems with existing kettles.

Clarity and presentation of human-use experience analysis

Reviewer 1:

The second paragraph in your intro section might have been better presented as a diagram or set of images listing the 4 tiers and their characteristics as all that information was difficult to digest in paragraph form.

Your web design is very simple, clean and aesthetically pleasing. I would have enjoyed an added section walking through the user experience before the "limitations" section.

Reviewer 2:

I really liked the color palette you used for your website and the overall aesthetic of it. Unfortunately, it was difficult for me to read the text without zooming in because the font was too small, and the color did not contrast enough to that of the background. I would recommend adding a title to each section. As I was first reading the "Limitations" section, I wasn't sure what the point of the section was until further into my reading because it didn't have a title. I would also recommend a "Back to the Top" button at the end of your page in case users want to go to the top without scrolling back up. In the blue section, I would suggest separating your information by tiers since the current paragraph is lengthy and hard to take in. I really liked the first picture at the top of you website. I thought it was visually appealing and very clean.

Reviewer 3:

The website had a very sleek design, that matched the kettle-aesthetic. Although I had some trouble reading the text, I think simply using slightly bigger font or darker colors would fix that problem easily. The drawings were very well done for the improvement sections, and I liked how the different situations that Teaplate can be used were also illustrated. In terms of clarity, I am still unsure of what the metal rod is supposed to do as opposed to the base. I first thought that the rod was a temperature sensor, but it seemed like heat is also built up in the rod as well. I would suggest clearly identifying in bullets the functions for each component so it is clear to the audience. I also noticed that the captions may have been switched for the last two images, which confused me at first.

Reviewer 4:

The webpage design is simple, straight to the point and presents the material efficiently. The design illustrations are really well done and help the reader to imagine the appearance of the actual product.

Some feedback would be to break up the huge paragraph of words in the blue block and to choose the color of the font such that it proper contrasts with the background. The limitation segment has a light gray font that makes it straining on the eyes to read it.
