Feedback on the concept explored by the sketch model

Client 1:

This crane looks really fun to try an operate, especially while trying to race the clock.

Reviewer 2:

Great use of yellow and the radioactive symbol on the crane. It really looks like an important piece of equipment that users should use cautiously. I also really liked the ideas of using x, y, and z cranks to get more people involved, but would it be feasible for a team of two people to complete (some more testing may need to be done). The cables used to move the trolleys may also distract from the main cable of the claw, it would be good to either remove these from view or make them different colors.

Reviewer 3:

The models were well thought out and executed. I liked how the works-like model was purely mechanical, reducing the cost and rate of error of an electrical system.

While I understand why you choose the room to be white, I wonder if that would make it too plain, and the guests would not feel immersed in the experience. Perhaps only the walls enclosing the crane would be a neutral color, while the walls in the room could have theming elements on them. I think having the crane sitting in the middle of the room would naturally draw the guests towards it, without the need of white walls.

Reviewer 4:

I think this would be a really fun activity that really requires teamwork since each person can only control one degree of freedom. I think you can maybe think a little bit more about what the actual hook would look like and explore different mechanisms for that (can someone control when it opens or closes maybe?) but overall this sounds like a really fun idea!

Reviewer 5:

The crane system is definitely key to your game. The other only key aspect I can think of is the resetting mechanism for the rods which one of your teammates already covered.

Feedback on the execution of the sketch model

Client 1:

This model demonstrates the look and feel and potential function believably. Good job.

Reviewer 2:

Great execution, and your videos really show how it will work. I also agree with what you have already noted that the wheels getting caught in the channels might be a problem. Have you looked into using linear bearings for the sliding and railing system instead of wheels? Also using a pulley system for the ropes?

Reviewer 3:

Very well executed. The life size model was great to test out actual functionality, learning about problems that can occur during play and workarounds for those problems. The looks like model helped show how realistic the crane will be. The distinctive colors make it obvious what its functionality is.

Reviewer 4:

You really showed all the degrees of motion of the crane mechanism and how it can be accomplished. You also tested the game play and showed the caution aspects in a very clear way. I guess the next step is to have the controls actually be you turning a wheel or whatever else you decide that is similar to your storyboard and not just pulling on strings?

Reviewer 5:

You did a good job with showing how controls could work using a cable system. However, you built a very big mechanism that looks like it took a lot of time to build. I think it's awesome that you can build stuff like this. However, sketch models should be simple and efficient. I think you could have built a smaller version of this with easier materials to work with like acrylic that you can laser cut and still answered the same questions. You would have saved a lot of time! I liked that you used an industrial crane aesthetic for the looks-like aspect of your model.
