Feedback on the concept explored by the sketch model

Client 1:

The concept of an opening sarcophagus is good. Thinking though the space constraints was also important. I think you came to the logical conclusion for a one sided hinged door. I would be concerned about pinch points when opening because of the shape of the sarcophagus.

I like the fan and speaker, I think they are what can sell your effect.

My main question about this concept is: Why would the users want to open her coffin? It seems like the storyboard ends with the coffin opening and the mummy with glowing red eyes being revealed. If I were a player, I would think this meant I lost! Is there a reason the players want or need the coffin to open. If not, maybe the game should be to close the coffin before it opens fully. This way the slow opening of the coffin acts as a countdown clock. If you succeed in pacifying the spirit, the coffin closes and you win. That's just one suggestion, but try to make the winning/losing states a bit more clear.

Reviewer 3:

I think the concepts explored here are important to the success of the gag: The speed, sound, and overall shock factor is explored and compared to an ominous opening effect (nearly inadvertantly). The shock and fear factor are key for this room, so this preliminary exploration idea is very important.

Clearly a lot of thought was put into different ways to open a box. I liked seeing the process of idea generation as well as construction which lead to the final product.

Reviewer 5:

I think you chose a great concept to explore and answered very useful questions. I think figuring out the mechanism to get the coffin open autonomously was a big challenge and question, and you explored it beautifully. I think adding the fans inside to create the feeling of spirits flying in the room was very cool. Great job also with testing it with the users!

Feedback on the execution of the sketch model

Client 1:

Your second model was good, construction seems robust enough for testing. The shape added to its appeal. I'm glad you went past the shoe box model. I also think it was to small to get accurate testing results.

I am concerned about the overall idea of using foam for anything more than prototype, unless it is hardened using resin I just won't hold up, even with warnings about not touching. Guests will touch it even if asked not to.

Reviewer 2:

It's really great that you used user feedback to make a second iteration. This version was definitely more immersive. I also liked how you stepped through your design and iteration process. Great job!

Reviewer 3:

I think you viably explored a few key aspects of the prop: the sound, speed of opening, and the all around fear factor. I think the looks-like aspect of the coffin could be more developed, but having a coffin that opens autonomously is pretty great. Now you have some refinements to make and I think you have honed in on those already from feedback

Reviewer 4:

I think with the right soundtrack and maybe a fog machine in the sarcophagus, this could look really cool.

Reviewer 5:

Your models looked very great. In your works-like model, it is obvious that you tried many different mechanisms for opening the coffin and picked the one that worked best. In the looks like model, it seems like you put a lot of effort into it and your coffin looks so beautiful and real. Great job on both of them! I would have liked to see the symbols on the side walls of the coffin that will be used in the game, but I guess you can explore those in the future.
