Innovativeness and potential of Decipher the Graffiti storyboard

Client 1:

This is a pretty common escape room gag, but could easily be done in a new and creative way for Open World. I think it needs more design work to be fully fleshed out. The real challenge in creating something like this is in the actual artwork and clues themselves. How do you make the clues and puzzle pieces blend into the theme? How do you make the puzzle easy enough to figure out but hard enough to not be immediately obvious?

Client 2:

This seems like a fun, simple, easy to build puzzle. Is there maybe to add a little more to it? right now, there's not a lot going on in this room. Maybe there could be a couple more interactive elements, or a couple of logical steps to go through to get to the solution.

Reviewer 3:

Great mystery and problem solving opportunity. Allows all the team to be engaged simultaneously.

Would be neat if there was a secondary step to complete (like a black light and UV paint)

Reviewer 4:

This storyboard has a lot of potential for the Open World concept. It is simple to implement and has the capacity to be an extremely difficult puzzle. The idea to use numeral to decipher graffiti is also a pretty neat and innovative idea. It's unclear, however, what the theme behind this concept is (regular office? home?). Solving mysteries is an idea that could be implemented in most themes but it doesn't seem like a theme in itself. How would these concept rooms be decorated?

Innovativeness and potential of Overcome dyslexia storyboard

Client 1:

This is an interesting use of multiple gameplay elements.

My biggest question is how do you prevent guests from just sliding the picture frame open and opening the door right when they start exploring the room? Is the mirror really necessary to read the hidden message backwards? A glowstick is probably not going to expose UV ink, you will likely need a blacklight.

It's important to keep in mind that each of these rooms will need to be automatically reset between groups.

Client 2:

This puzzle seems interesting, but I think it might have a problem resetting. Thing about how the glow stick gets back in the drawer? The same goes for the mirror being returns nicely somewhere in the room. Also, we try to avoid consumables, so maybe a glow stick isn't the best choice. What about a UV light that is somehow activated?

I like the use of mirror, but it might not be necessary. Most people could probably just read backwards. It's tricky, but most can probably do it at least a little bit. Is there a way to force the use of the mirror?

Reviewer 3:

Great staggering of clues and challenges.

Perhaps rephrase the title - might be sensitive and inaccurate.

Reviewer 4:

This puzzle presents a unique challenge, but it may not be difficult enough for the Open World concept as written. There is, however, plenty of potential to increase the difficulty of the riddle. In terms of potential, this concept is fairly easy to implement but the glowstick and mirror may present problems, as the game will need to find a way to force the users to return the items to their original locations (especially since the glowstick is part of the puzzle-- the mirror may not be as important).

Innovativeness and potential of CSI Special storyboard

Client 1:

The Murder Mystery theme is definitely fun!

Again, I fear that resetting the room may be a substantial issue. How do you keep guests from moving objects in the room between groups and how do you keep guests from taking things out of the room necessary to solve it?

Client 2:

I love the general idea of the puzzle here. Pulling fingerprints from around the room sounds neat, but I worry about the feasibility of doing it. Are they really pulling the fingerprints? Can normal people do that without messing it up? Also, the consumable aspect of the films is a concern.

Maybe there's a way for people to "collect" fingerprints without having to really pull them. Also, most of the items around the room would probably need to be "glued down" some way.

But I like the fingerprint idea in general! I just think the application of that logic for the guest might need to be different.

Reviewer 3:

Good use of detective techniques.

Blood stains might be a bit aggressive for the audience - could have an alternative setup that is more universal.

Reviewer 4:

This is a truly neat and innovative idea. The popularity of crime-solving shows like CSI indicates that a lot people would probably enjoy solving this type of murder mystery. In terms of potential, it would be difficult to implement as conveyed in the storyboard, mostly due to the consumable nature of the finger print collection films and their central place in this concept. Implementation of the CSI special would likely need a different focal point for the investigation.

Storyboard design and website presentation and execution

Client 1:

The website was simple and easy to navigate. It took me a minute to realize the storyboards could be clicked on to provide more details.

Client 2:

Very clear. Nice sketching and nice jobs with not too much text.

Reviewer 3:

Good mystery and clue challenges.

Reviewer 4:

The storyboards themselves are excellent. They offer excellent clarity with very neat presentation. THe short descriptions effectively expand on the content of the pictures and there is a clear flow in each of the concepts. The website is effectively built and very simple for the user to navigate. Stylistically, the use of comic sans as the description font is likely to frustrate many users.

Room theme, Solve the mystery: engaging and interesting? identifiable with target users?

Client 1:

I think that the room theme was very vague. I imagine this is sort of a murder mystery type room? I think that fleshing out what that means is a good idea. What kind of decor does a murder mystery lend itself to? Victorian? Spy lab?

Client 2:

I think if you wanted to use this theme, I would go all the way. The last room is the only one that screams "detective". The others sort of just feel like general puzzle/mystery room activities. Maybe think about how those could be more like a detective from TV, Books, or the Movies!

Reviewer 3:

Possibly including more physical components would be great for the target users.

Reviewer 4:

The theme of solve the mystery is more of a gag/room type than a theme. Mysteries can be implemented in a wide array of actual themes. That being said, a crime-solver theme could resonate with a wide array of users in the target audience and has significant potential.
