Preview & Preparation

1. You can purchase the course texts
   • Japanese: the Spoken Language, Part I ('JSL'), available at the Kendall Coop.
   • Kana-Kanji Version of the text (JSL), available at the Copy Tech (11-004).
2. You can read the Introduction (JSL, pp. 1-22).
3. You can go over Classroom Instructions and Greetings and Useful Phrases (JSL, pp. 24-25) with the CDs that are available in the LLARC, and read the Miscellaneous Notes (JSL, pp. 25-26) as well.

Sept 8 (R)

Your attendance is crucial from Day 1.

• Tour of the Language Learning and Resource Center (LLARC)

It is essential that you understand Classroom Instruction and how to use LLARC in order to continue in this course successfully.

To prepare for today:

1. Start checking the online materials on a daily basis
2. Learn the Classroom Instructions (JSL, p. 24) with the CD
3. Learn the Greetings and Useful Phrases (JSL, pp. 24-25) with the CD
4. Read the Introduction (JSL, pp. 1-22) and familiarize yourself with the Japanese sound system, Romanization, Symbols, and other conventions used in the text.
