Lab 1 Instructions: Media Show and Tell

In lecture, Professor Jenkins explained that popular culture might be understood as linked in vital ways to all other aspects of our lives, a part of how we made sense of our selves and the world around us. In this lab, you are asked to think about the role which media (and popular culture) plays in your own life and environment. You should select an artifact which reflects your own tastes and experience of the media and bring it with you to the evening discussion session. The artifact can reflect your relationship with any of the dominant media within our society (i.e. film, television, radio, popular music, theatre, comic books, cyberspace, etc.) Artifacts might be anything from the cover of your favorite album to your IDIC key chain. You should be prepared to give a 4-5 minute talk on its cultural significance in your life. Your goal should be to share something with us about your investments and participation within mediated society.
