Homework Extra Credit

Due 22. May 1997 5:00PM
Given: a 30 foot long W14 x 30 steel beam is loaded with an evenly distributed load of 15.0 k/ft.
Determine: the magnitude and locations of the Maximum Shear, Moment and Deflection for the following three conditions:
Comment on your observations of the changes

Solution: USE MULTIFRAME FOR THIS EXERCISE! Generate a single beam that has four equal segments of 7.5 feet. For the first part only define two supporting conditions at the extreme ends of the beam; analyze the beam, determine the maxiumum values; print this out or sketch the diagrams by hand from the screen. Then, for the second part go back into the frame menu and simply add another roller support at the center joint and continue the same process.

I suggest making a table to illustrate the above. Note how the magnitudes change, or do not change depending on the number of supports...... what happens to the maximum moment between beam A and B???
Be sure to include the diagrams with the problem set.

Note that this homework will replace your lowest HW score.
