Before Recitation
Read Physical Deployability Matters by Jeffrey Mogul and John Wilkes. This is a recent paper (2023) from the HotNets workshop, which covers so-called "hot topics" in networking.
Question for Recitation: Before you come to this recitation, you'll turn in a brief answer to the following questions (really—we don't need more than a sentence or so for each question). Your TA will be in touch about exactly how to turn that in. Your answers to these questions should be in your own words, not direct quotations from the paper.
- What is this paper about? What do the authors mean by "physical deployability"?
- Who is impacted by concerns of physical deployability in datacenter networks?
- Why hasn't physical deployability typically been a topic of concern for networking researchers? (Presumably there is no one single, correct answer, so take this question to mean: why do you think physical deployability hasn't been a topic of concern)
