Hey!!!
Thanks for participating in this experiment! Please try to
concentrate on the task at hand - that would be greatly
appreciated!
The purpose of this experiment is to maximize the number of Hershey's
chocolates you receive.
There will be three different parts to the experiment.
In each part, you will be given a choice between two buttons. On
any given trial (a trial is one button press), if you press one button,
you will get a greater reward than if you press the other, but the
amount of reward you receive from each button will change between
trials.
For example, if in one trial the left button may give you a bigger
reward than the right button, but on the next trial the right button
may give you the bigger reward.
At the beginning of the experiment, you will be told which two keys on
the keyboard to use to make your selection. Use your index and
middle fingers of your dominant hand to press the keys and try to keep
your fingers over the keys at all times.
The outcome of each trial (choice) will be displayed by a vertical red
bar on the left. The higher the bar, the greater your success on
that choice. On the right, there will be a blue bar that
represents your overall reward.
Each time the blue bar reaches a whole number, the program will stop
and allow for you to collect your reward so far.
You will make exactly 240 choices. Time is not a factor so you
won't receive any more or less candy if you do the experiment faster or
slower.
Once again - please try to concentrate while making your selections!
Thanks!
