38 University of California Riverside The University of California Riverside’s Sustainable Integrated Grid Initiative (SIGI) launched in 2018 to research and implement renewable energy, energy storage, battery electric vehicles, and more in a living lab configuration. Part of California’s CalTestBed Program, which “assists clean energy entrepreneurs in gaining access to critical testing facilities”, researchers have designed and implemented various microgrid and battery storage projects for research and evaluation while helping the campus meet its energy needs.
