Coming off their first loss of the year,
MIT quickly jumped all over Polytechnic, quickly building
an 8-0 lead with several transition baskets. The Engineers
never let up with their relentless defensive pressure, forcing
many turnovers and quickly putting the game out of reach.
Sophomore Kyle
Doherty and freshman Mike
Huhs dominated inside, and MIT also got great perimiter
shooting from its guards against Polytechnic's zone defense.
Sophomore Andrew
Tsai hit five 3-pointers in the first half, extending
MIT's lead. With freshman Danny
Kanamori and junior Alex
Phillips leading the fast break, MIT took a 60-31 lead
into halftime.
MIT continued to build its lead in the second
half. Led by a strong balanced attack and more pressure defense,
the Engineers continued to get easy baskets in transition.
Yet, the main highlight of the second half was the return
of freshman Eli
Sheets to the team. Sheets
connected on a three-pointer from the corner and had several
nice assists to freshman Adam
Gibbons for easy layups. Every MIT player scored as the
Engineers went over the century mark for the first time this
season. This was the last game before winter break. MIT's
record now stands at 8-1 and will resume play January 3 against
Salem State.
