Profile
Though already a junior,
Brian Hoying is a rookie on the MIT squad. He
returns to the game after taking two years off to compete for the
Indoor Track
& Field team here at MIT. In his time away from varsity basketball,
he
qualified for 2001 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National
Championships in both the high jump and as a part of the distance
medley relay
team. His relay team finished 3rd, earning him an All-American award.
Brian
and teammate Andrew Tsai also led their intramural basketball team
to a
championship last season. More recently, Brian was named first team
All-Conference for his performance as a free safety for the Engineers'
varsity
football team.
Brian came to MIT from St. Henry High School in
St. Henry, Ohio, where he
earned 8 varsity letters in three sports. He was first team All-Conference
in
both Track & Field (where he was the state champ in the high
jump and earned
All-State honors two times) and Football. As a member of the Redskins'
varsity basketball team, Brian played for one of the winningest
coaches in the
history of Ohio high school basketball, Fran Guilbault. Coach Guilbault
amassed a 613-207 record and three state titles over 37 years.
Brian's father, Randy, teaches chemistry and physics
at St. Henry High School,
and his mother, Linda, is a nurse. His sister recently graduated
from the
University of Dayton and now teaches at an elementary school. He
also has a
younger brother, Chris, who is a Freshman at St. Henry High School.
Brian
loves to eat, sleep, and win games, but he also enjoys listening
to music and
watching sports such as football, basketball, auto racing, and professional
wrestling. He is studying Mechanical Engineering and is possibly
looking for
a career in the automotive industry.
