Stuart Laval is entering his 3rd season as one
of five returning players from last year's team. This year, he is
accepting the role of small forward as opposed to shooting guard,
which he had been playing in the 2 previous seasons.
Before arriving to MIT, Stuart graduated valedictorian
from Edgewater High School in Orlando, FL, where he was a three
sport athlete for all four years in basketball, cross-country, and
track. He captained cross country and Track, where he was All-Conference,
All-District, and All-County in cross country. His basketball team,
coached by Travis Jones, won the conference his last two seasons,
and advanced to the 6A state finals in 1998. Stuart was honored
in 1998 as the Great Florida Shootout Scholar-Athlete of the year
award. He also was one of ten student-athletes to be named to the
FHSAA All-State Academic Team.
Down south in Florida, Stuart's parents, Rodney
and Carolyn, are both accountants and work for a small private firm
in Maitland, while his older brother, Steve just graduated from
the University of Florida. Stuart hobbies include movies, bowling,
and expecially sleeping. He is currently majoring in Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science, while maintaining a 4.3 GPA. He
has interned for Compaq and IBM during his past two summers, but
is still undecided on his future career plans.
