Profile
Andrew Tsai is new to this year's team after deciding
not to play
last year. Hoping the rustiness doesn't last too long, he hopes
to
contribute by shooting the ball well and by playing good defense.
Tsai came to MIT from Fox Chapel Area High School
in Pittsburgh,
PA, where he was a captain and three-year member of both the varsity
soccer
and basketball teams. For soccer under head coach Mark Perry, he
was a
starter on the WPIAL Finalist team his junior year and an all-section
center-midfielder and team MVP his senior year. He also participated
in
the WPSCA All-Star game and finished the year with 7 goals and 10
assists. For basketball under head coach Harry Jenkins, he was a
member of
a WPIAL Finalist team his sophomore year before becoming a full-time
starter his junior year. As a captain his senior year, he averaged
17
points per game earning him a spot in the Cager Classic and Pittsburgh
Hoops Classic All-Star Games. For all of his efforts, he received
the
WPIAL Scholar/Athlete Award and the Terry Tarasi Foundation Scholarship
for
leadership (soccer).
Andrew's parents, Yih-Wan and Wun-Yun, are originally
from Taiwan and have been active supporters throughout his life.
He also has an older brother Albert, 29 years old, who lives in
Denver and develops computer programs for various college and NFL
teams to use. Andrew also credits Al as the one who introduced him
to sports, which remain the focal part of his life. But the most
exciting family news is the recent birth of Andrew's nephew Baby
Drew, who has become an instant Steeler Fan and enjoys seeing the
Bus (Jerome Bettis) plow through opposing defenses. When Andrew
is not playing basketball or watching the Steelers, he enjoys watching
other sports, NFL Primetime, video games, golfing, and wishing he
was back home eating his mother's unbelievable meals.
