Profile
Evans is from Swepsonville, North Carolina and
is the son of Carol and Tom Boney, Jr., and brother to John Boney,
a sophomore in high school. Tom is the editor and publisher of the
largest weekly newspaper in North Carolina, The Alamance News. Carol
does part time work at the newspaper and drives John to high school
almost an hour away each day. John has recently begun playing basketball
and also participates in many school theater productions.
Evans played high school basketball for Freddy
Johnson at Greensboro Day School in Greensboro, North Carolina,
where his brother now attends. During his 2 year span on the varsity
team, the Bengals lost only 5 games and won a state championship
during his senior year. Evans played his AAU basketball with the
Greensboro Gaters and set career highs in 5 consecutive games, scoring
more than 20 points in a game three times in a row and leading the
Gaters to a tournament championship. This year he will provide a
strong support for the 3 and 4 position with the versatility of
a forward and the post moves, and size, of a big man.
In addition to basketball, Evans also plays golf
for the engineers, despite his handicap in the high 20's. He is
currently focusing his studies in math and chemistry and will likely
major in one of the two in addition to business management. Someday
Evans hopes to be master of the world and all that is in it.
