Phil Murray came to MIT from Winchester High School in Winchester, MA,
where he was a three-year member of the Varsity basketball team under head
coach Quinton Dale During his junior and senior seasons, Phil scored in
double figures in 27 consecutive games. As a senior captain, he averaged 23
points per game, including a school record 37 points in one game, and received
team MVP and First Team All-Middlesex League honors. In addition, Phil was
selected by the regional Daily Times Chronicle as the 2002 Outstanding Sports
Performer in basketball and by the MBCA as a Best 80 All-Star. During his
career, he led a Winchester team that made three straight appearances in the
State Tournament, losing in his senior season to the undefeated state
championship team from Charlestown. Phil also played AAU basketball for Mike
Crotty's Middlesex Magic.
Phil's parents, Phil and Karen, plan to support MIT basketball and
attend every game. His sister, Erin, also hopes to attend many games and to
be an active supporter. Off the court, Phil enjoys watching movies and
sleeping.
