CEASE: Third Party Software Vendor Survey Questions --------------------------------------------------- 1. Please answer for both Intel/Linux and Intel/Windows 2000; a. no plans for a version on this platform. b. might go to this platform at some point, nothing now specifically planned or in development. c. port definitely planned, work not started yet. d. port in progress. e. version exists now. 1a. If you answered c. or d. above, what is your best estimate of a final release date? 1b. If you answered c. d. or e. for Intel/Windows 2000, is it or will it be Windows 2000 Logo Compliant (as certified by Microsoft)? 1c. In answering question 1, the hardware could be a "generic PC" (like Dell, Compaq etc.) or might be an Intel CPU machine built by SGI. Is this significant to your plans and if so, in what way? ****************************************************************************** 2. Besides SGI and answers to 1., what platforms/OSes does your application run on now? What new platforms, if any, will you port to in the next 24 months (actual work in process, or committed ports)? ****************************************************************************** 3. What other platform/OSes, if any, do you plan to support within 24-48 months? ****************************************************************************** 4. With regard to SGI, and in view of recent changes in SGI strategic directions, what are you plans for SGI versions of your software: a. Will you continue to support and develop new product releases for MIPS/IRIX, for at least the next 3 years? If not that long, then how long? b. Will you freeze new product development on MIPS/IRIX at a specific release of your application, with further support limited to bug fixes only? If yes, by what release? c. For any of your product releases on MIPS/IRIX, will you continue to support them on the latest IRIX version available, or will you freeze development/certification at a certain IRIX release? ****************************************************************************** 5. Does your application depend significantly or critically on SGI's implementation of OpenGL for its functionality? If so, will it work with substitutes (which?) or "clones", such as Mesa? Are you willing to use such substitutes if necessary? ****************************************************************************** 6. Are there any hardware or OS attributes of SGI machines (other than OpenGL), that make then particularly desirable as a platform for your application? Are any "unique" to SGI, in the sense that they cannot be substituted for on other platforms without excessive effort or expense? And if so, what are they?
