Grief Support Resources for Students

The Department has organized some specific student grief support resources following the loss of Professor Jim Swan. You are not obligated to attend, but if you’d like to gather and talk together, or are looking for other means of addressing and processing this loss, we encourage you to look into one of the sessions below.

  • Dec 1, 5-6pm in E17-517: Graduate student group session
    • with Dr. Karen Singleton and Liz Guttenberg (OGE)

  • Dec 6, 12-2pm in E17-502 and E19-506: Individual grief support for students (walk-in)
    • with Dr. Karen Singleton, Liz Guttenberg (OGE), Maria Minkova (Student Mental Health & Counseling), Thea Keith Lucas and Nina Lytton (Office of Religious, Spiritual and Ethical Life)

  • Dec 8, 4-6pm in E17-502 and E19-506: Individual grief support for students (walk-in)
    • with Dr. Karen Singleton, Liz Guttenberg (OGE), Anthony Van Neil (Student Mental Health & Counseling), Thea Keith Lucas and Nina Lytton (Office of Religious, Spiritual and Ethical Life)

As a reminder, we also have the below events Friday, Dec. 3:

  • 1-4pm, 66-201: Barn Babies
  • 4:30-6:30pm, E14-674: Department-wide memorial service to honor and remember Jim Swan

We hope one or more of these sessions will be helpful to you as we navigate this new reality, especially while wrapping up the semester and entering the holiday season, both of which can add more stressors.

Student Mental Health and Counseling Services at MIT Medical is always available to our students, and another avenue for support.
