"suck. a fish, a barrel, and a smoking gun."
By Jessica Scott
If all you want is the cold, hard facts about the news, suck is not
the newsmagazine for you. Suck is a bit more than that, but at the
same time, a bit less. While the opinions featured on Suck go into
a lot more detail than the average story, unlike most news sites,
there is only one story featured per day.
But frequency is not the most notable difference between this and
the average new site. Suck is known for its irreverent if somewhat
cynical approach to the stories it covers. Along with its own brand
of kitschy artwork, the site features a scathing humorous opinion
each day, but its not necessarily something that would be considered
newsworthy by other sites. For instance, on the day I reviewed the
site, the main feature was an article on the booming tech industry
of India. This is something I'd read briefly about elsewhere, but
here on suck I got an in-depth look at the matter. Additionally, this
is an issue I never researched before because the thought of it never
really intrigued me, yet this feature on suck brought it to my attention
and managed to make the subject matter interesting to me.
On Wednesday's the comic "Filler" is featured, which also
addresses some political issue, but through a comic-style. I rather
like the artwork on suck, so I personally enjoyed "Filler."
Also, the site has links to reader commentary on the features on plastic.com,
as well as current topics of discussion on that site. There are few
links to sites of a similar humor, such as feed.com.
Although suck.com would not be your only source for news of the day,
it would make quite an interesting supplement, offering a different,
if sometimes cynical, view on the political issues of the day.
