Research Summary
The main goal of my thesis is to understand the influence of the chemistry and the surface topography on the wettability of textured surfaces. I am focusing on commercially available fabrics as a class of re-entrant textured surfaces. By combining the inherent texture of the fabric with low surface energy coating materials, we can enhance the apparent contact angle and the breakthrough pressure to disrupt the solid-liquid-air composite interface. This work is funded by the US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development, and Engineering center.
