Mission Statement

Sample Mission Statements

#1

The mission of this team is to work diligently, productively, and efficiently on all assignments in the hopes of achieving an A. In order to achieve this goal we will implement several strategies. We will plan ahead and prepare for all assignments and experiments. We will maintain organization within both the team and lab settings. We will also remain conscious of all team members’ abilities in the hopes of moving ahead as a cohesive unit. In addition, as a team we hope to develop greater knowledge of relevant material and develop the necessary laboratory skills, while trying at all times to bring humor and fun.

#2

Our mission is to thoroughly study the kinetics of methanol pyrolysis in the suggested temperature range of 900-1200K. This involves calibration of the GC for the desired concentrations, determining temperature profiles in the furnace reactor, and analyzing the ratio of the different products obtained at different temperatures. In the process of doing so, we hope to get to know each other well, thoroughly understand the concepts behind the chemistry of the process, work efficiently and productively in lab, and successfully confront conflict as necessary in the process.

#3

Our mission is to perform a comparative analysis of the Bioanalyzer protein assay and traditional protein quantification techniques. In order to accomplish this, we will create a cohesive team, which will help each member work, learn, and improve by comparing the Bioanalyzer protein assay with traditional techniques such as ELISA, gel electrophoresis and Western blot, we intend to evaluate the accuracy at which the Bioanalyzer measures protein concentration via statistical analysis. Furthermore, we hope to characterize the protein samples derived from cell culture as well as bone extracts. Through effective team work, we aim to promote a cooperative environment, which will allow us to perform to the best of our abilities. We will strive to be organized, responsible, flexible, and to treat all team members and faculty with courtesy and respect. In addition we will work to build professional relationships within our team while promoting a friendly working environment.

#4

Our team’s mission is to produce accurate and important scientific results that will aid in furthering the fields of catalysis and chemical engineering. Specifically, our project involves the formation and characterization of novel ceria mixed oxides. Catalysts such as these are scientifically important in the area of pollution reduction having been used significantly in catalytic converters found in automobiles. Therefore, our task is important from both a chemical and industrial aspect.

Success on this project will depend on many factors including scientific results, team growth, and the overall quality of the learning experience. First, both the quantity and quality of the results produced has been deemed most important. The work produced by the team should be of a nature typical of Professor X’s graduate students and laboratory group. Results from the team’s work will be scientifically important and of a publishable nature. In fact, it is our goal to create novel materials that may even be patent-worthy. The project should be performed in a highly organized and efficient manner. In order to accomplish all of these research tasks, it will be necessary to build and function as a strong team unit. This will require the development of leadership, strong interpersonal communication, and organizational skills, along with the formation of team relationships both in working and friendly, relaxed environments. The final feature upon which the success of the project rests is the level of scientific learning and growth experienced by each team member. It must be remembered that this is still a class, which means that it is an opportunity to learn about new scientific techniques and to sharpen the communication skills necessary to survive in the scientific community.

Therefore, the focus of our team is to accurately produce scientifically important results, develop important teamwork skills, and to learn new laboratory and communication techniques. The team will work as one entity in pursuit of these goals, continually growing and learning as group from both our successes and failures. We will strive to create a paint suspension for a specified amount of time, with no appreciable settling, while preserving product quality. We will accomplish this by studying and determining the affects of the following variables: temperature, and motion on suspension, and in particular, clotting effects. We would like to integrate the technical and scientific knowledge required to solve this problem with cooperative and team-building efforts. By the end of the project we would like to present a practical, and credible solution to our client’s problem.

#5

The team’s mission is to experimentally explore methanol pyrolysis. To determine the reaction order and the activation energy associated with the thermal decomposition of methanol. Through utilization of the technical and team building skills developed in the first module, we will accomplish this task. Also, we shall continue pooling and further developing each team member’s intellectual and collaboration resources, as well as using the resources offered by the faculty and staff.

In addition to performing the technical tasks required, our mission is to learn to support each team member in effectively performing each role as team leader, recorder, and oral presenter. This team feels that it is necessary to learn what each role entails to fully understand how each role is an essential component in forming a team as one entity. By assuming every role, each team member will develop organizational, technical, leadership, team building, and time management skills. We intend to be open minded to all team members’ opinions and inevitable situations and communicate freely so that we can adjust our mission and goals as necessary. We wish to also gain confidence in our technical competency both as individuals and as a team. The team will work as a whole to test ideas, analyze data meaningfully, and draw complete, decisive conclusions in the report in a timely manner. All of these missions must be accomplished in order to thoroughly explore the pyrolysis of methanol.

#6

We will characterize an open loop liquid level system to provide the necessary mathematical model for our analysis of a closed loop liquid level system under proportional control. We have committed ourselves to the highest of standards for this work in order to achieve concrete results that we can present confidently. For each experiment we will research the objectives, theory, and relevant protocols to aid us in setting tangible goals. Using these goals will guide us in acquiring data to the level of precision necessary in order to draw meaningful conclusions. We will grow as a team by exhibiting professional and cordial behavior.

#7

The team’s mission is to experimentally explore mode stirrer effects on microwaves in the Turbo Chef Oven. To continue the work of previous teams, we will measure power distribution over the oven for various mode stirrers. Our studies will focus on metal composition of the stirrer. We will accomplish this task by utilizing the technical and team building skills developed throughout the semester. We will continue to improve each team member’s intellectual and collaboration resources, as well as utilizing the resources offered by the faculty and staff.

This team feels that it is necessary to learn what each role entails to fully understand how each role is an essential component in forming a team as one entity. By assuming every role, each team member has better developed organizational, technical, leadership, team building, and time management skills. We intend to be open minded to all team members’ opinions and inevitable situations and communicate freely so that we can adjust our mission and goals as necessary. We wish to also gain confidence in our technical competency both as individuals and as a team.
