You may find the following of interest from:

    http://www.worldspace.com/company.htm

WorldSpace, based in Washington, D.C., was founded in 1990 as a
privately-held corporation to provide satellite digital direct audio
and multimedia broadcasting services to the emerging and underserved
regions of the world: the Middle East, Africa, the Mediterranean
Basin, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

The systems first satellite, AfriStar, is slated for launch in June of
1998. The second satellite of the system, AsiaStar, is set to launch
in December of 1998, with the third satellite, AmeriStar, slated for
launch in June of 1999. Broadcast operations are scheduled to commence
in December of 1998, ushering in the 21st Century and a new era of
    communications.
