During christmas of 1996, I travelled with my family to Guyana, South America. My parents were returning to their homeland for the first time in 27 years, while my brother and I, who grew up as first-generation Canadians, were meeting relatives, exploring a culture, and learning about our heritage for the first time ever. This, then, is a photojournal: photographs I took during that time, as well as some of the experiences, stories and histories of my family.
This system runs as a Java applet, reading text files and images from a server. It takes a while to load each new section, and a while at the beginning to cache some images, so please be patient. This site will continue to expand and develop, both in terms of content and navigation (for example, the "Notes" option is not yet implemented) , so please visit again.
Click on the menu of words below the text-body for new stories. Use the "Journey" button/pull-down menu to navigate back to read selections you may have missed. Note: you cannont select from the word-menu if the navigation-menu is open.
Enjoy.
