The numbers at the bottom screen represent a bank of fireworks. They are also the calendar for this week. The current day is represented by the location of the month name.
Holding the cursor-flame over the number doesn't light it immediately. It takes a while to light the firework, just like a real fuse needs to heat up before it burns. The firework takes off after about a second of heating.
