I was working hard at my classes since I wasn't needed around the campaign. It was ridiculous how all this attention had gotten to him. He didn't even go to school any more, he just went and shmoozed with people. Actually, they started becoming fairly important people, since his poll numbers were looking great. He was up to around 40%, and the press wouldn't stop talking about how many students had registered to vote as part of the registration drive. I don't remember whose idea it was for that whole thing in the first place. Maybe it was his. But still, I helped get him where he was, and now he never even had time to talk to me.

But even still I was happy for him. It was really remarkable what was going on, and the national media came to talk to him. But he still had the debates coming up, right before the election. I wasn't sure what he thought anymore, so I wasn't really gonna be able to help him through it. I was afraid of what he wanted me to do for him, since I wasn't sure what all these people he was talking to were telling him. I mean pretty important people, like state senators and political science professors and stuff. I'm sure he was learning a ton about all this. I wasn't Machiavelli or anything, although I did give him a copy of The Prince to read.
