3.11 Grading Policies and Academic Honesty :

Final Grade Breakdown :
· MIDTERM EXAM #1 (33%)
· FINAL EXAM #2 (33%)
· PROBLEM SETS (33%)

Grading Criteria :
· Generally, grading will be conducted according to institute regulations :
GRADE A. Exceptionally good performance, demonstrating a superior understanding of the subject matter, a foundation of extensive knowledge, and a skillful use of concepts and/or materials.
GRADE B. Good performance, demonstrating capacity to use the appropriate concepts, a good understanding of the subject matter, and an ability to handle the problems and materials encountered in the subject.
GRADE C. Adequate performance, demonstrating an adequate understanding of the subject matter, an ability to handle relatively simple problems, and adequate preparation for moving on to more advanced work in the field.
GRADE D. Minimally acceptable performance, demonstrating at least partial familiarity with the subject matter and some capacity to deal with relatively simple problems, but also demonstrating deficiencies serious enough to make it inadvisable to proceed further in the field without additional work.
Modifiers of + and - shall be allowed on the grades of A, B, and C. These modifiers are only for internal grade reports. Term and cumulative averages (internal and external) shall be calculated without modifiers.

Academic Honesty :
· All work turned in for credit - problem sets, quiz papers, etc. - must be your own individual work unless specific instructions to the contrary have been given to you by the instructors. Group discussion of problem sets is allowed and encouraged, but the problems should then be worked out and written up on an individual basis. Turning in problems copied directly from bibles is cheating, and you are encouraged to contact the instructors for help if you get stuck on a problem. During exams exchange of information with others is unacceptable.
