Lodging

This brief note offers information that you will need when you arrive at MIT. Please take a moment to check maps and prepare for your visit.

MIT Visitors

The cab ride from Logan Airport to Cambridge is about $30 -$35 dollars. For those of you who wish to use the subway system, take the SIlver Line bus to the Red Line train and get off at the Central stop. The Central stop is closest to the MIT Warehouse dormitory. The Kendall/MIT is on the opposite side of campus and about a 10 minute walk to the dormitory. Please visit the website for more detailed views.

For getting around campus, use www.mit.edu to get interactive maps and other information for visitors on campus. The meeting will take place in Building 4, Room 304, the Pappalardo Room.

Between these two sources, you should be able to get to your campus destination.

MIT Warehouse

224 Albany Street, Cambridge, MA

The dormitory is staffed 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. When you arrive, the front desk person will look for your name on the guest list and give you access to the dorm. The dormitory cannot collect cash or checks. Payments will be accepted when you check-in at the meeting on Thursday morning. Only cash and checks will be accepted. All guests have been sent individual emails stating the total due and the number of nights arranged.

*Breakfast will not be provided at the meetings. Your best bet is to visit the MIT Stratton Student located in Building W20.

We look forward to seeing you this week. Happy travels!

June is a wonderful time of the year in Boston, and an especially busy month. Families attending college graduations throughout Boston often extend their visits kicking off the summer tourist season. The MIT campus is still abuzz as it hosts more and more conferences every year.

That said, the following lodging options are some of the best available for those traveling between June 10th through June 13th.

Courtyard by Marriott
$149 per night plus 12.5% tax
For reservation call 617-715-1786
Ask for Cygnus rate

Rate expires May 10th.

Upside: It's conveniently located between Harvard Square and MIT. The hotel offers shuttle service, but guests can enjoy a 25-minute spring walk to the MIT campus along the Charles River. If you ask for a river view room, you will enjoy a spectacular view of the Boston skyline. The hotel was renovated in the last two years and offers free wireless. It is a great value at $149-per night.

Downside: King bed rooms only are available as of 4/3/09. The cab ride from the airport is about $35. There is no subway stop nearby so you must use the shuttle, cab or walk.

Holiday Inn Somerville Boston
$119 per night plus 9.7% tax
For reservation call 617-616-1952.
Ask for Cygnus rate.

Rate expires May 10th.

Upside: Two dollars will take you from Logan International airport to this location. Take the Blue line to the Orange and get off at Sullivan Square. Use the complimentary hotel shuttle or walk 3 blocks to the hotel. Right now, there are plenty of rooms available with 2 beds which means you can split costs with a colleague making it $65 a piece. Act now! The lobby and bathrooms were all renovated this year. Free wireless in rooms and lobby. Overall, it's a pleasant hotel.

Downside: The neighborhood is an older working-class, industrial area so, you are not surrounded by any natural beauty. To some it looks sketchy, but it's a very safe area. If you miss the shuttle to campus, the cab ride to MIT is about $9. The cab ride to the airport $30.

As of 2009 May 21, the on-campus housing is now full. Hotel rooms (see above) are still available though.
MIT Warehouse Dorm Space
$96 per night

Upside: You are very close to campus. It's inexpensive. It's a newer dorm. Located close the the subway line. Minutes away from the Central Square area of Cambridge.

Downside: Dorm space is limited. Rooms are arranged in suites which will be shared with two other guests.

For reservation at MIT Warehouse Dorm:

1) Indicate the number of nights that you intend to stay on the Cygnus Registration form.

2) Make total payment by check (# of nights x $96) -- PAYABLE TO MIT

3) Send your name, number of nights and check by May 10th to:
