Amy Kaufman: Geometric Allegories

March 29, 2000 - May 3, 2000

Curated by Michelle Fiorenza

I enjoy the process of monotypes (painting on a sheet of plexiglas and having that image transfer onto a piece of paper as it goes through the printing press). There is a feeling of creative excitement when I take the paper off the press to see the impression made from the painted plexiglas sheet. I rework some of the images by either running the paper through the press again or I'll paint on the paper directly. I use repetitive shapes (rectangles, circles, etc.) yet each shape will be unique with its color and brushstrokes. I want viewers to think about the feelings and visions that the monotypes evoke in them.
