Listing Events on Calendars
If you are organizing an event and you want to let people know about
it, here are some good places to list it online:
The Official MIT Events Calendar
(http://events.mit.edu/index.html). Events
listed here will automatically be listed on the Department and SA+P
website as well, and this is the course of some of our twitter and
facebook feeds as well. Most support staff and some faculty are
authorized to list events here. (If you can't add events and want
to, contact Ezra Glenn in HQ.) See http://events.mit.edu/help/index.html for additional help on adding events to this calendar.
- Plaza: Be sure to list your event on Plaza, most likely under "Dept. Culture and Events" or
"Conferences and
Talks".
- The Student-Run "Google Calendar": It's called the "student-run"
calendar for a reason -- students created it, and are empowered to
add events to
it. See here
for info on how to use it. (Note: after click the link, you will be
asked to log into Plaza; upon successful login, please wait
patiently -- maybe a seemingly-interminable four seconds -- and
you'll get redirected to google calendar info page.) ** Important:
don't delete events from this calendar simply because you are not
going -- it will delete them for everyone. **
- Email: try to be sparing in the number of email announcements and reminders you send, and use the narrowest possible distribution list.
