The Name

The story told by Anthony Patire.

During the Spring of 1980, the Chairman of E-entry, Masayo Watanbe (Chairman Mao), suggested several different names for the entry. Among them were: Eagles, Elementals, Earthlings, Ejaculators, Erotomaniacs, Eunuchs, Equine Sadistic Necrophiliacs, etc. The importance of the name derives from the fact that when the entry fields an IM team, it is good to have a cool sounding name to strike fear into the minds of the opposing team. However, no one seemed to take much of an issue with the name. As a result, team names were generally chosen by the team captain of the respective teams. From that time forward, E-entry has been known to use the following names for various athletic teams: Fighting Koala Bears, Beached Whales, Ejaculators, Water Moccasins, among many others...

During the Fall of 1988, E-entry switched from being an all male living environment to co-ed. Ani Rosado was a Freshman that year and was also the capain of the soccer team. When she learned that the name of her soccer team was the Ejaculators, she was very upset (as would most females). So, the name was officially changed to the Executioners, and that has been the name of E-entry ever since.

The Murals

Also told by Anthony Patire.

The mural in the 31 suite (stars on a black background) was created to cover up an ugly Charlie Brown mural. This mural was the work of Joannah Smith '95 at the beginning of her Senior Year.

The mural in the 21 suite (Three Executioners at Sunset) was created by me, Anthony Patire '95, at the beginning of my Senior Year. It is a blow up of the design of the E-entry T-shirts that I created during my Freshman year. I believe that the youngest person to have a copy of this T-Shirt is Elaine Wong '97. This particular design is actually very similar to a previous E-entry T-shirt design that predates my tenure at E-entry.

The mural in the 22 suite (the lighthouse) was painted by Rosalydia Tamayo '95 (I'm not sure I spelled her name correctly, by the way: Rosa was a calculus student of a certain famous high school teacher whose story was featured in the movie "Stand and Deliver"). She painted it at the end of her Senior Year.

The "E" outside the elevator entrance to E-entry was painted by me. It replaced an old ugly block orange "E" that used to live there.

The TV cabinet

My freshman year 91-92, E-entry had a really old TV whose buttons didn't even work. Its companion VCR really wasn't much better. During my Junior year--January of 1994--David Gaxiola '95 was nearing the end of his final term as Entry Chairman, and since part of his platform was to upgrade our home entertainment system, he felt obligated to replace part of it.

At that time, the old VCR was beginning to flake out, so it did actually need to be replaced. One of Dave's last acts as Entry Chairman was to purchase an awesome Mitsubishi VCR. Unfortunately, the new Mitsubishi couldn't fit in the wooden box that housed the old VCR. In an attempt to secure the Mitsubishi from being stolen, he locked its power cable to a chair. Unfortunately, this strategy was weak and later found to be inadequate. I was very worried that the VCR would be stolen because it wasn't well secured. So, I resolved to build a cabinet for the new VCR. The new cabinet was also designed so that it could eventually hold a 27" TV. I scheduled to build the cabinet during Spring Break of 1994. Unfortunately, the VCR was stolen on the very first day of Spring Break--one day before Elaine Wong '97 and I began work on the cabinet. Someone cut the power cable to free the VCR, and then walked off with it. Elaine and I built the cabinet anyway in hopes that it would eventually house an upgraded home entertainment system.

Soon later, Danielle Coffing '96 was elected to be the new Entry Chair, and one of her first acts was to purchase the Zenith VCR. The Zenith wasn't quite as good as the old Mitsubishi, but it did the job. Later, E-entry finally bought a new TV, we didn't have the money for a 27" so we bought a 25" which fit nicely in the cabinet.

Now the cabinet has become a more or less permanent fixture to the 22 suite. Not only does the cabinet house the TV, VCR, and cable box, but it has a compartment at the bottom for random E-entry group belongings such as ping pong equipment, and what-not. And that is the story of the cabinet.

I believe the old TV and VCR were eventually thrown off the tower.
