A
garden path winds along the neighborhood as a flowing river of green, nestled
between brick rowhouses and masonry cathedrals. The sun drenched brick stones,
overgrown with plant life, trace the path of many who have traveled here. I
think of the Southeast Corridor Park as one of the most significant landmarks
within the neighborhood, a vibrant four-mile pedestrian walkway that joins two
distinct Boston areas: the South End and the Back Bay. These pathways expose
patterns of spontaneous and manicured open space within the South End. A respite
from the clamoring city streets, gardens and greenways form a mosaic of natural
landscapes.
