Credits and Resources

First and foremost, my thanks to Christina Thompson, Harvard Design School Career Services, for her gracious and patient assistance with DreamWeaver and site design. This website would not exist without Christina's kind, good-natured guidance.

Thanks also to Peter Fernandez of the GSD's Computer Resources department, who got me started in the right direction with DreamWeaver. And to the Loeb Fellowship for affording me the freedom to explore new avenues of learning about landscape architecture and developing a new eye for interpreting landscapes. The students in Sites In Sight were an inspiration and Tad Read's encouragement helped me when DreamWeaver had me thoroughly flummoxed. Mary Daniels, Director of Special Collections in the Frances Loeb Library kindly provided a wealth of material on Charles Eliot and Sylvester Baxter.

Finally, to Anne Spirn, who graciously allowed me to audit the class and who first inspired me to focus on the urban environment more than twenty years ago with her seminal book, The Granite Garden. The Granite Garden continues to inspire me and my colleagues in our work to create more humane and ecologically sustainable cities. The Language of Landscape will have a similar impact in years to come.
