Laboratory for Nuclear Science

The LNS Spot Award Program is intended to acknowledge and demonstrate immediate and spontaneous appreciation and recognition for the exceptional contributions of individuals and teams. Folks who go above and beyond in the course of everyday service to MIT. 

These can be MIT staff, students, faculty but also people external to MIT: vendors, temps, customer service folks, basically ANYONE! So, if someone does you a solid, let’s start giving virtual high-fives (plus a gift) for these good folks. Here’s how it works: 

• You email LNS-HQ@mit.edu and explain who you want to recognize, their contact email and your message of thanks
• We generate a certificate (sample attached) that gets emailed to the recipient and posted in LNS HQ
• The recipient gets a message, cc’ing their manager, thanking them for their great work and an invitation to pick a gift to go along with the award



Examples of awards might be something like: ‘Thanks, Dr. Smart for always taking the time to be sure our lab meetings include spotlights like birthdays, births and breakthroughs of the lab members. It really contributes to the community vibe in our group and your work is appreciated!” 

 OR 

“Thank you, LNS Finance Member for all your help sorting out the issues I had with my vendor yesterday. You’re always so quick to respond and offer a hand to me. You make my job easier, and I am so appreciative!” 

Please note that due to policies for untaxed income, a single person can only receive 2 Spot Award gifts per calendar year.
