LSA.122 | Second Language Acquisition

Suzanne Flynn and Gita Martohardjono
TR 2:55-4:35
location: 32-141
course web site: http://lsa.dlp.mit.edu/Class/122

This class will explore current theoretical and empirical issues related to the study of second language acquisition. Readings and discussions will focus on relevant aspects of current linguistic theory, first language acquisition research, and brain imaging studies among others. We will focus on development of a principled theory of second language acquisition within a generative framework. Emphasis will be given to syntactic, lexical, and phonological development. We will also consider ways in which the unique human capacity for multiple languages confronts and informs theories of language and the mind.
