MW 8:15-9:55
location: 32-141 *please note room change

This class will consider issues in the analysis of Mayan voice and topicality, with a focus on both the formal properties of various clause types (e.g. case licensing, agreement relations) and their discourse functions. Topics to be discussed include ergativity in Mayan; active, passive, and antipassive clauses; and topic and focus constructions.

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of syntax will be presupposed; acquaintance with Optimality Theory will be helpful.
