To my dearest Leonard,

Surely you have received my gift to you.  Even though you are
still young and too small for us to be able to come to
understand one another through correspondence, I hope,
nevertheless, that this present from your uncle will be precious
and priceless.  

The binding of the Chumash is not significant; what is
significant is that you study and understand what you study. 
The more you study, the more you will learn.  You will find
everything in this Chumash: the good, the bad, the light, the
darkness, belief and fanatacism.  The Torah is based on Ten
Commandments.  However, for you, my child, it's still difficult
to grasp all Ten Commandments.  

However, one of the Ten Commandments you are able to grasp, and
you will find it in your Chumash, i.e., Honor thy father and thy
mother.  Treasure and honor your father and mother, and you will
be treasured and honored.  Remember that you were born a Jew;
become familiar with your national background and history. 
Study and acquire knowledge.  The more you study, the more you
will know.  The Torah makes one wise and opens the eyes of all
who study it.

Sol, I abide by your wish and write several words to your son in
addition to the present I sent for him.  I hope that you will
lead him to the right path of study and knowledge.  I am also
enclosing a picture of me, Aunt Malke and Joseph.  This was
taken two days before she left the hospital.  The young man on
the right is the husband of the sick woman patient, then I am
standing with my Joseph, and the gentile and his wife are the
parents of the sick girl.  It's not an important picture, and we
didn't come out well.  It doesn't pay to keep such a photograph.
 Therefore, I'll ask you to send it back to me when you have a
chance as a reminder if there's ever a discussion about it.

So, heartfelt regards for you, your wife and dear son, sisters,
parents, family, et al.  Please answer promptly about everyone
and everything, as well as what's going on with your business. 
I note a sort of discontent in your last letter...write the
details, everything with precision and exactness.
