Date: Mon, 26 Oct 1998 09:45:32 -0500 From: Words from the Monastery Organization: Order of the Ever Blooming Lilly Subject: [WRITERS] ALL: 1999 Annual WRITERs ??? Please, do not hit reply and respond to this email with "ALL" in the subject line ... further emails will come under FILL for the duration of the contest ... ***** 1999 Annual WRITERs ??? Yes ... it's that time again where we recognize our members for just being themselves ... now in the past this award was referred to as the EmJay (for Mary Jane Isles the previous host) ... but sadly as always people have moved on ... so, this email has a three-fold mission: 1) To announce the coming contest ... IT'S COMING! 2) To ask you, the heart of WRITERs ... what the hell should we call it? 3) To take up more of your valuable time and to ask you, what categories? In regards to the announcement ... I have volunteered to MC the proceedings this year (I'm a giver) and I am looking for (desperately need) two able bodied assistants to help with the tallying of the soon to be incoming (duck!) votes ... anyone interested, please respond to: jackechs@erols.com with a courtesy copy to: mbarker@mit.edu ... first come, first serve. Unlike the writing contests you are allowed to vote and participate fully in the ??? contest. Now that brings up the second most important goal of this here missive ... what do we call it? Something that reflects the originality of the whole thing ... something unique ... something which all trademark and copyright rights will immediately be relinquished to WRITERs ... so what will it be? Send your suggestions to: jackechs@erols.com with a courtesy copy to: mbarker@mit.edu Last, but hardly least ... just what will the categories be this year? Well, we've ... that's tink and I have put a fly in the ointment ... in the spirit of fostering a more friendly environment and to no longer reward negative behavior ... categories such as List Flamer ... List Deviant ... List Sicko ... or their brothers and sisters in negativity will no longer be allowed (sorry) ... here's a list of last years categories ... please, send your suggestions for additional categories (or edits to existing categories) to: jackechs@erols.com with a courtesy copy to: mbarker@mit.edu And the 1998 Categories were: Best All-Around List Member Best Contest Organizer Best Critiquer Best Flame Douser Best Interactive Character Best Interactive Story Best List Pair Best Overall Posts Best Signature File Best TECH Contributor Best Website (appearance) Best Writing Exercises Favorite Essayist(s) Favorite Poet(s) Favorite Short Story Writer(s) List Conservative List Curmudgeon List Daddy List Diplomat (most agreeable) List Flirt (Award for Male and Female) List "Gandalf" or Sage/The Merlin Award List Kid List Liberal List Lurker List Mommy List Oldster (either chronologically or behaviorally) Most Intellectual/The Einstein Award Most Knowledgeable Techie on List Most Likely to be Published Most Likely to be Seen at an Open-Mike Reading Most Mysterious/The Hugh Hefner Award Most Outspoken Most Persuasive Most Political Most Romantic Most Sensual Most Serious Most Surprising Peanut Gallery (jokesters/pranksters on list!) The Golden Shovel Award (best BS'er) The Soul of the List The Welcome Wagon Award (best welcomer) Who Wouldn't You Kick Out of Bed? (Award for Male and Female) Who Would You Most Likely Let Babysit Your Kids? (aka The Barney Award) ... can you think of any more? Here's one to begin with ... Best Website (content, helpfulness) Deadline for submitting a name suggestion and category suggestion is November 8 ... a mini-runoff for the name will be held from 9 to 15 November with the official voting beginning on the 16th of November through the 13th of December (my final exam is on the 9th of December, so that gives me time to add 'em up afterwards) ... categories will not be voted ... unless we end up with too many ... say if the above list were to more than double we would then have a quick elimination round of a week to weed 'em out.
