Maybe I can start a bubble-gum junior poets' auxiliary, huh? Ah, well - opine, slash, whatever, folks? mike ---------------------------------------- Lizard Thoughts m. barker 1993 106 words On the way to work, the vacant lot, Blacktopped, stripped with sterile white lines, A few scattered cars, pristine signs. Last year, wild flowers spread pollen, Aggravating sinuses. Fallen, matted vines and weedy shoots shot up, straggling and strutting, sliding out onto the walk, blocking busy men. Disgraceful, dirty, but. alive. Some mornings, walking by the unclean heap, I'd be surprised by a lizard sneak. Bright eyes glistened in morning sun, Then skitter skatter away he'd run. Now it's clean, that vacant lot. No weeds remain to mark the spot. But I miss cheerful lizard's greeting, As I trudge, to another meeting. ----------------------------------------
