Slurp! My tongue would splat a passing fly, and crunch it down, dry with dust amidst the lily leaves hovering over the muddy depths. Desperation was my companion, in those days of mosquito snacking and minnow baiting. Then she came, step squish flop! Skirt flew high, and mud splattered long smooth legs. A silvery laugh belled from those lips, and slender arms raised sleek hands dripping wet. I looked, then hopped away. No warts. And so I suck on dragonfly wings, and wonder why and where my princess waits, with skin well-wrinkled, knobby back, and creaking "RIBBIT. ribbit. ribbit." Someday I'll have a chance to say, "Your pond or mine," I hope and pray. And we'll live happily ever after, tadpoles wriggling and bugs agiggling. ---------------------------------------- I should pay my respects to bill, without whose words this piece might never have been written... (so you know who to blame!) - The human race will soon extinguish as we all sit around kissing passing - toads, frogs and possibly other enchanted amphibians, waiting for one to - turn in to a prince/princess!! mayhap your toad will come, someday! so keep on croaking! ----------------------------------------
