(er - the spellchecker says your name is music to my dictionary... does that make sense to you?) - Also, does anyone have any advice for someone who wants to get into - freelance work? Freelance work doesn't have to be a problem. First, despite certain recommendations from those who are overly concerned with the accountant's view of the world, keep your armor bright. Use fine steelwool, sometimes a few dabs of colorful paint, and present yourself to your employers as a knight in a white suit. Certainly black armor doesn't show the rust and is cheaper to take care of. So what? Do you want them to think you and Darth are related? Second, I strongly recommend practice. The foil, the rapier, even the secretive weapons of the character assassin should be familiar parts of your daily workouts. Sure, a mace and lance are good enough for loiterers hanging around the portcullis, drawbridge, or portecochere, but you may not have boiling oil, serfs, and crossbows handy when you need them. So don't get too tied up with one set of weapons, no matter how nicely they fit your gauntlets. There are those who insist that the only time they will swing a sword is when they can see the gold. Sadly, they oft times find the sword is rusted into the sheath by the time someone waves gold near them, and it is somewhat difficult to do your best work in a dull black sheath, no matter how suitable it may be for polite gatherings of the upper or lower snobbery. Third, and I can't emphasize this enough, get the finest horse and varlet you can afford. Skimp on the tent, perhaps, but when you charge the windmills, you want an animal you can trust under you. The horse, that is, not the varlet. Oh, and in the fourth quadrant... don't forget a sense of humor. When you're sitting on your... well, when fortune hasn't come your way, the mudpuddle was deeper than you expected, and the varlet and your horse come out of the backpack, admit to their relationship and ask if you will support the three children... you will find a sense of humor quite, quite helpful. Another source of income also can be very helpful to the freelancer, and court jesters do eat, at least... [don't blame me - the Society for Creative Anachronisms is holding my keyboard hostage...] wrong question again, eh? okay, tie my lance down and I'll take another whack at it... is a "loose cannon" related to a "free lance" in some arcane way? why do they call it "free lancing" when you get paid for it? Sometime... hi, Janet - I think I'm really going to have fun with all of you. Fun is not permitted. You are number 6. I am number... number.. numbest... tink
