Is Everything Getting Bigger? ...or are we all getting smaller?
July 25, 2003

Since statistics show that adults and children in the U.S. are becoming more and more overweight each year, it probably is not true that we're getting smaller. So yes...you guessed it...many things around us are getting bigger and bigger...fast food burgers, soda and popcorn at the movie theater, bowls of pasta at our favorite Italian restaurants, muffins and bagels, and the list goes on and on!!

It truly can be challenging to maintain a healthy weight, because we are all faced with daily decisions around healthy choices, portions, and serving sizes. But there's good news!! There are lots of great tips and useful information on two webpages sponsored by the NIDDK Weight-Control Information Network.

Visit these links to learn more about controlling portion sizes at home and when dining out. You can also challenge yourself by testing your knowledge of portion sizes "then" and "now."

So...the next time you're thinking about ordering that "Jumbo Extra-Savings Megahuge Burger" with a "Pile O' Fries" on the side....try and make a better choice using these helpful tips.
