What does it spell? Motivation!

Last week's e-Well Tip offered helpful strategies for getting back on track after having a setback. As promised, here are a few more motivational tips for maintaining the healthy habits you've recently started or are planning on starting.

TRY SOMETHING NEW
Are you tired of the same old breakfast? Are you craving a donut or muffin instead of the same old cereal you've been eating for months. Change things up. Try some oatmeal with a dash of cinnamon and chopped nuts. Add a small amount of sugar or a packet of sugar substitute. Stir it together in a bowl and microwave it for a quick, healthy breakfast that tastes good! Tired of your boring turkey sandwich at lunchtime? Before you head to the food court for a giant serving of fried rice and chicken fingers, think of some healthier alternatives. Try some lean roast beef, spicy turkey, or turkey ham. Add some crispness by adding lettuce or other crispy veggies. Try a spicy mustard or flavorful slice of cheese. Put it together with slices of a nutty whole grain bread. A small change may be all you need to keep your meals exciting and keep you on track.

IF IT'S BROKE...FIX IT
Do you have old exercise equipment taking up space in your house or apartment? Are your sneakers in bad shape? Did your gym membership expire? Have you started wearing your workout clothes for yard work or painting? Take a look at what you need to be successful with an exercise program. One of the very first things to consider is whether you have the right "equipment". This may mean a new exercise bike, a new and up-to-date fitness video, a new pair of walking shoes, or new comfortable clothes that let you move easily. This doesn't mean you need to spend lots of money. If you're on a tight budget, walking is the most inexpensive option. Look for a sale on good walking shoes and head out the door or to a local park. If you're looking to join a gym, shop around - different health clubs and YMCAs may be offering specials throughout the year. Fitness videos cost only about $20 dollars each or less. Be sure you have the correct shoes so that your knees and back are protected.

HAVE FUN
One of the most important things to keep you motivated, is the level of enjoyment you get out of what you're doing. Take time to prepare meals that taste good! Try new activities until you find an exercise program that you like! Enjoying your healthy lifestyle will keep you motivated to continue being healthy for many many years to come!
