Alpha Course

Would you like to learn more about the Christian faith and its relevance to our lives and world today? Would you like to discuss Christianity in a relaxed, open-minded, friendly environment?

In September of 2003, we are starting an Alpha course at MIT. Alpha is designed for those who wish to investigate Christianity -- people who are just curious, those who feel they never really got going as a Christian, newcomers to the Church, and those wanting to brush up on the basics. Participants in the course meet for 2.5 hours each week for 12 weeks. Each meeting will consist of a casual dinner, talk, and discussion time.

We will be meeting on Tuesdays from 6:30 - 9:00 pm in the Christian Fellowship Lounge of the Religious Activities Building (W11-080). The schedule and topics of the course are:

  • September 23 -- Christianity: Boring, Untrue, and Irrelevant?
  • September 30 -- Who is Jesus?
  • -- Why did Jesus die?
  • -- How can I be sure of my faith?
  • -- Why and how should I read the Bible?
  • -- Why and how do I pray?
  • -- How does God guide us?
  • -- Who is the Holy Spirit?
  • -- What does the Holy Spirit do?
  • -- How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?
  • -- How can I resist evil?
  • -- Why and how should we tell others?
  • -- What about the church?
  • -- How can I make the most of the rest of my life?

If you cannot make it on Tuesdays, here is a list of other Alpha courses in the Boston area that meet on other dates and locations.

There is no charge to participants. To learn more about the Alpha course, visit the Alpha USA home page.

Feel free to drop by our first meeting on September 23. However, registration is encouraged. For more information about Alpha or to register, please fill out the form below. You may also contact the course leaders: Johanna Goth (jlgoth@mit.edu) and Steve Geiger (skg@mit.edu). Thanks, and we look forward to hearing from you!
