In which our heroes ...
Orhan 4 Day 62 TE 6061
Haeraan and company start their journey!
There's a dwarf at the door. He's here to see Haeraan. Seargent Thulmond
Thunderbrow. He seems quite outspoken and superstitious.
Next First Corporal Thorn. Served on the Righteous Current.
Dressed in uniform with a pink scrunchy.
Then Abigail Glass (Abby) shows up. She's a goth. Apparently Lord Rianne
sent her. She's trying to leave her previous job as Gail, the invisible
whirlwind of death.
Finally is Aynar Sagalan, he's a highman with full plate mail to see
the great paladin of Rianne.
Haeraan brief people on the plans for Nuyam Kom. Mostly intelligence
gathering.
We have dinner that evening and prepare for the journey on the morrow.
We're heading out tomorrow morning first thing.
Orhan 4 Day 62 TE 6061
We head down to the Deep Blue for travel to Nuyom Kom.
We set sail. The weather is a bit rough. Some folk are sick.
Orhan 4 Day 65 TE 6061
Thorn tries to arrange deck excercises (as instructed by Haeraan).
Thunderbrow is informed that it is bad luck to have women aboard ship.
Oh dear. He tries to get Abby to ride in a dinghy, but she's not buying
it.
Orhan 4 Day 66 TE 6061
We notice some ships on the horizon. Lankani war galleys. We steer clear.
Orhan 4 Day 69 TE 6061
We notice some ships here and there. But not the captain is getting nervous
because the wind is dying down and we might not be able to outrun galleys.
Thunderbrow spots two ships. The captain tries to evade. We enter a fog
bank! We play cat and mouse a bunch.
Oh no! Head on collision! Abby kills the enemy lookout! Haeraan warns
our side! We turn!
We repel the boarders and smash the enemy oars!
Corporal Thorn writes an after-action report. (103 military org)
Orhan 5 Day 3 TE 6061
Haeraan and the captain think there are more Lankani here that usual.
We come out of a fog bank and find a galley attacking another Oathar
ship! We go to their aid!
Abby is a whirlwind of death. Aynar chops a guys into the sea. Thorn
runs towards the enemy officers. Abby swings behind people and chops their
arms off. Thunderbrow waits for the bording plank to be inserted.
Thulmond rushes in and gets a kill! Thorn is hosed by the captain, but
Abby comes to his rescue.
Battle continues!
We accidentally kill the captain while trying to take him prisoner. Oh
well. At least, when the captain goes down, everyone else surrenders.
The captain and XO of the other ship are all dead. Oh no! There's an
Ensign left. We split up among the three ships to get them to Nom Rul.
Sharks follow us for days. Thorn writes another after action report.
Orhan 5 Day 5 TE 6061
We make it to Nom Rul. People are surprised by our arrival with a captured
galley. We set the slaves free. Abunch of them get jobs right away as
soldiers against the Lankani.
The port has definitely seen better times. It's gone downhill a fair
bit. One of Haeraan's paladins meets us on the dock. We get some rooms
at a local Inn. We get a report:
- The Lankani are winning a war of attrition.
- Civil authority is collapsing. Probably won't last more than a year,
two at the most.
- Soup kitchens have huge lines now.
- Army is fragmented into semi-independent groups. Not enough coordination
and supplies to keep it coordinated.
- About half of those paladins Haeraan sent are left. The best is up
to 12th level now.
- The Hutarn is in the capital, but well behind the "front".
We decide to head to the Hutarn to see what the deal is, and see if he'll
give us a pass to get us around the country.
We get horses (and a pony for the dwarf) and prepare to head towards
the Hutarn tomorrow.
Orhan 5 Day 8 TE 6061
We arrive at Ashanok and the palace of the Hutarn. The country side on
the way is depressing. Lot's of refugees, burned out farms, etc.
It's also a little run down compared to last time, and it's much more
crowded, but otherwise, still reasonably well off. No festive air though.
We travel to the palace of the Hutarn. The guards make us wait. The trade
minister shows up and greets Haeraan. The Hutarn will see us on the morrow.
The trade minister asks after Oathar and hopes he might be able to send
a message in confidence to him and another message to your order. The
message to Haeraan's order is that they would accept any assistance they
could provide (temples). The message to Oathar is that the country needs
a loan (which must be kept secret in case of financial ruin.)
He then forwards us to the military advisors. Haeraan thinks that them
borrowing from individuals is pretty bad. (Thousands of gold.)
We're brought to the palace where we all get our own separate rooms.
Haeraan instructs his doobies to not repeat any of that.
Tomorrow the Hutarn!
