In which our heroes ...
Orhan 2 Day 32 TE 6062
The boat gets blessed by the high priestess of Neela. The sailors get
an extra blessing. Arisia brings the kids to say bye. Nusmoi blesses the
boat further, but his doesn't reassure the sailors. The priest of Valris
blesses the boat. The preist of Rianne blesses the boat. Cornelia our
navigator shows up. Oathar gets all riled up as Cornelia starts giving
orders to the crew. Cornelia gives Oathar a floppy Admiral's hat, black
with a raven's feather. The Monkey Business, our aux power to
cargo ship follows behind the flagship, the Righteous Current.
We set sail for Folenn.
Orhan 2 Day 42 TE 6062
We make fine progress through good weather. It seems having a navigator
might be good after all...
We reach our first designated landfall in south west Kalestia. Oathar
picks a nice little cove to bring the ship into. There appears to be a
village in the distance. Oathar proposes we approach and trade to refill
our supplies, as that's part of the plan. We anchor in the cove and head
in on the longboats. We head up to the dock to find a bunch of people
form the village here to see what's going on... (Imre notes one guy running
off with a uniform.) They say Hubbda, Hubbda. It's all very mysterious.
Kyrik tells them we come in peace. They invite us in to the village. They
lead us into the town. We are greeted by several people with uniforms
who come up towards us with some better dressed people.
The guy who speaks says "How many?" Kyrik says "250".
Very strange, we wonder what that was about. At this point the better
dressed people arrive. Imre manages to stumble along in Kayvis, which
he learned in Northern Jaiman.
We buy some food from them using the bring out things and point theory...but
during the negotiations, a young man comes in and starts babbling about
the gods and the strangers and stuff that must be done! Oh dear. Then
several start bowing down to us... It must be the prophesy.
Yeah, we're the prophesied saviors all right. Sigh. We arrived with our
four masted ship, just as was foretold. They draw one of the horrible
invaders. They are half man, half something. Something metal. Drat. Yup,
that's the Iron Wind.
The prophesy says the Iron Wind will show up RSN. As soon as a black
raven circles the town. Like now, with Tradewind. Sigh.
Oathar gets his marines down and starts setting up a perimeter around
the down and put some scouts out. Haeraan takes charge and starts organizing
a defense. Imre does a divination and realizes that the legion of fluffy
bunnies is already among us. Oh dear!
Suddenly, Imre realizes the horrible truth. Oathar has no powers... Oh
dear. Yeah, that might be a problem.
That night, they arrive!
We engage the enemy! Kyrik joins the front line marines. Oathar and Haeraan
handle command. Imre provides healing support.
In a stunning moment of glory, Oathar's marines charge into combat, realizing
the culmination of all of their training. Rolling a 292 with an OB of
107, they cut down 21 of the enemy and lose not a man! Oh the glory! Oathar
is ecstatic and promises bonus pay to all on the spot! Kyrik wades in
an accounts for several himself. Even Imre gets in on the action and blows
up a couple of flankers.
The battle continues. We've killed 25% of the enemy and taken no casulties.
Things slow down a bit after that. We trade 10 more enemy for 3 of ours.
Imre leaps upon the wounded with his mass healing ring and heals all incidental
damage and stabilizes the down guys. Kyrik benefits from the healing and
wades deeper in to fight a +35 Iron Wind Zombie. 36% of the enemy is down.
Another round later, Kyrik has taken a couple of light crits and 47% of
the enemy is down with a total of 5 casulties on our side. Then Imre stands
two of the fallen back up. Kyrik chops another pair (49%). The army breaks
a little as Oathar loses control, so only four more (53%) are killed but
they are pretty well defended and no one falls. Imre takes a break from
healing to turn one of the Iron wind (54%) while Kyrik takes out another
(55%). Oathar rallies the troops who, under Haeraan's masterful direction,
take out 14 more guys (69%) while losing 2 of their own. Kyrik finishes
his guy off (70%) but takes a fair bit of damage himself while catching
on fire and Imre stabilizes the casulties (no friendly deaths so far).
Kyrik takes another in his bonus haste round (71%), bleeds like a pig,
and laughes at the enemy while chopping another (72%). The marines get
in another lock under Oathar and Haeraan, and the iron wind are both outnumbered
and outgunned, so the rest of the battle goes predictably.
Imre heals up the marine casulties while Kyrik lays hands on himself.
We save the natives! We are showered with presents resupplying the fleet
for free! There is a great celebration!
Orhan 2 Day 43 TE 6062
We awake after the celebrations. The young prophet wants us to lead the
town. The mayor is studiously neutral. They take careful statues and portraits
of our faces. Haeraan and Oathar pose for them. There's a halo.
We are plied with wine food women and bananas all day, while Kyrik memorizes
the location and learns the language. Imre is offered a second wife. Kyrik
learns Kathan (the language of the area: 6 spoken 4 written). They ply
Imre with women and men and sheep, but he refuses all since he is married.
Finally he takes a sheep just to make them quiet. Oathar memorizes the
location as well.
The mayor wants to know who among the sailors are married in order to
marry some of his women off.
Oathar heads back to Santa Vallandra to get some "advisors"
to start working on this town. We rename the village Vallandragrad! Kyrik
tells them the story of Vallanda the great warrior magess. We raise a
flag and claim the cove. Oathar invests 200 hundred gold in silver for
the advisors to start inproving the local eeconomy, etc.
Orhan 2 Day 44 TE 6062
We sail on the to the west.
Orhan 2 Day 54 TE 6062
A week later we land in south east Kelestia. We look around for some
spots to memorize. There are some rocky beaches and cliffs. Nothing good.
Orhan 2 Day 55 TE 6062
We find a nice deserted beach. Haeraan finds the remains of some sort
of structure that was here once. No ghosts or other undead though. The
ships crew does some foraging to replenish some stores. Kyrik leads a
hunting party and bag a few rabbits and quail. Nothing big. Imre inscribes
our star symbol into a flat area of the ruins.
Orhan 2 Day 56 TE 6062
We set sail to establish our next beachhead. A town midway between Galt
and Palia that Cornelia points out named Boriboth, a freeport inhabited
mostly by Taalath. They probably don't speak any language we know. They
charge us a birthing fee of 1 gold per mast per three days. Then we discover
he speaks Erlin and all is well.
There's a wooden palisade around the town. It's a decent sized trade
town. There are temples to Rianne, Eissa, and Shaal.
Haeraan heads to the temple of Rianne, and introduces himself. He gets
a briefing about the local fight against darkness. Here they are trying
to keep an eye on the Raven Queen to the north. She has a large army which
she's been using to fight a war with some of the smaller towns and independent
areas of Galt. The raven empire has been expanding and they are monitoring
the situation. She has lugraki and a race called the pale men. She's opposed
by a realm called Clycallah. They are a realm populated by a race known
as the high men. They fight with unusual methods, including powerful mages
who have constructed war machines. Giant metal spiders what belch steam.
They are a republic worshing the gods of Orhan. The raven queen has 10,000
Lugraki. He tells them he's from Selkai/Eidolon. They warn him he should
probably know Lugraki if he wants to go to Galt.
Imre goes to the temple of Eissa. There are sick people lined up outside
the temple. Imre heads to teh head of the line to talk to the sister and
several people object but Imre reassures them. "I was hoping I could
be of assistance." She questions him about his training, and he mentions
he's had some training at the temple of Eissa in Selkai. He shows her
his holy symbol and she's scandalized that he's wearing such a thing.
"Maybe I should talk to one of the priestesses inside." "Yes...
maybe you should."
They escort him to a higher priestess inside. He has a bit of a difficulty
explaining the situation to them, but eventually one of them remembers
that there is in fact a male priest of Eissa someone to the far west!
She never thought she would ever meet him. He tells her about our trip
to Folenn, and she asks if it is a pilgrimage. She thinks "Truly
the times are upon us." and she warns him about various vague dangers
of Folenn. He offers his help with the steady stream of petitioners.
Kyrik finds a mapmaker and convinces him to found a library/school thing
dedicated to Valris. He also grabs a set of nautical charts for the area.
Imre requests a map of Galt on the return journey.
Imre goes shopping for something for Nusmoi. They have ivory here which
is fairly rare elsewhere.
Next time, Oathar talks to Shaal temple.
