In which our heroes ...
Orhan 1 Day 38 TE 6063
While Haeraan gets healed back up. Alynna seraches for non-cursed/evil
loot.
There's a glowing red sowrd on the ground. It's so evil. There's also
an exit to another bridge at this level.
Searching the center of the tower we find.a circle of four evil stones.
Yup, they sure are evil. Even Haeraan doesn't want to touch them. But
they are strangely transfixing as we take along time to leave their warm
violet glow.
We cross the revealed bridge. It's decorated with a half moon and stars.
Beyond the archway, it's dark.
Like the other tower, it's got the central pillar with a path around
it, and a couple of rooms near the entrance. The first looks like a barracks.
There are cupboards with a half-moon and some stars on the outside. Inside
the cupboard, Oathar finds a set of nine clear vials. They've got some
weird liquid in them. Imre thinks they say "sleep inducer".
Opening the other cupboards we find a bunch more sleep potions. "deep
sleep inducer", "short nap time", etc.
Across the hall we find another room, labeled "Lucidfen stores".
We think it's probably something that used to be used to be a useful psychoactive
drug thing that induces dreams. Sadly, Oathar and Haeraan can't pick their
way in. Imre manages it though. Inside is a room that was filled with
metal cabinets. Looks like lot's of glass splinters everywhere. Oathar
finds a total of 10 vials with a faint red glow remaining.
We proceed to the central area. A giant central column is mostly swathed
in darkness, but there's a small circular platform that goes around it.
We find an hour glass on a platform near the center. It says, "When
the sands run out, bring the glass about."
Huh. Well, we're sort of scared of flipping the hourglass as it might
be a one time thing. So we backtrack until we get to the big empty tower.
On the other side of that there's another exit to explore. We explore
it. We need to fly across. We use long door.
There's another tower beyond with a green floresence from below highlighting
the arch with a sickly hue. Yup, the entire tower is filled with glowing
green strands.
OK, there's that. Let's backtrack again and find out what's on the other
roads.
We take the left road and find a lintel covered with a sunrise. Oathar
thinks the lintel actually depicts a sunset instead of a sunrise just
before he almost gets turned into an undead. Deciding to not go in there
just yeah, we head to check out the right road instead.
There's another line of symbols over the archway. Imre reads them. "Tower
of portals." We head in. There are bridges from the central walkway
leading to at least three platforms leading to freestanding portals. Creepy.
At least three of them. Each portal is a silvery arch with a haze inthem.
They have humanoid palm prints inlaid in the control panel of each arch.
Using the book of gates, we find that the original destination of the
first portal (blue control) was another city, but they weren't really
designed to function from evil demi-planes, so we leave it alone. The
next portal has three (blue, black and red) palm prints. (Looks like a
local teleporter.) The thrid portal has a yellow palm print, which also
leads to somewhere within the city. (Or so we think from the book of gates.)
Heading beyond the tower of portals we find another tower. No symbols
or glyphs. It has a briney odor. Yup, we think the brine dragon is in
there. There are two other entrances to the tower, and a ladder reaching
down into the tower, and it sounds like waves down there.
We head back to Green web tower. We dangle Alynna over the edge on a
string so she can go down and investigate the webbing. She makes it about
50 feet down and there's still webs everywhere. Pesky. She gets another
10 feet down and it still pretty webby. She makes it another 20 feet and
is now through the web. There's a thick braid of web hanging down from
the central mass with a balck cube hanging from it. Strange red designs
on each surface. There's also a skeleton hanging off the bottom of it.
Its head has black flame surrounding it.
Hmmm, we send everyone else down there too. Creepy. There's words on
the bottom of the cube, but the skeleton is standing on them. Oathar manages
to transcribe a few though and Imre says they say, "Many tails have
I, or many a beginning, if blah blah, people sigh, wails mark their passing."
There are three bronze plaques on the bottom. A mighty oak tree with many
roots, a cat with many snake headed tails, and another one.
Imre does a card reading... but doesn't learn anything. So Oathar fire
bolts him. He moves. So we read the bottom.
"Many tails have I, or many a beginning, if I fail, people sigh,
wails mark their passing." There are three bronze plaques on the
bottom. A mighty oak tree with many roots, a cat with many snake headed
tails, and a rope with one end frayed and unravelled..
