In which our heroes ...
Orhan 1 Day 42 TE 6063
The final click is heard, and we teleport out. Ugh.
We fuss around and then get chased by Machin Shin some more. Aaarrrggghhh!!!
We look around and see a distant could of bats past the spider tower.
We run to the tower passed the brine tower and find a tower with no lintel
message, a hallo cylinder, and a point of flickering light.
Sadly, Machin Shin chases us more, so we teleport to the other side of
the plan where the tower with the spiders was. This is close to the tower
surrounded by bats.
Closer inspection seems to indicate they are batwings, with no bat bodies...
We float up towards them. They are definitely undead. Haeraan identifies
them as negative energy fundamentals.
We head back to the tower of sleepy doom.
We find a bunch of frozen priests. One of them has a headband that we
determine came from the "Sect of the Morning Sun", an obscure
cult of Phaon. The headband activates the Seat of the Long View. We find
the seat, and Imre activates it. It gives him all of his power points
back. Yay! It heals everyone one at a time.
We break in and find a metal pedastal with a vise on top holding a wand.
It's the only think around not covered in yards of ice. The pedastal reads:
The choice of days empowers the wand. But the choice can not be made
from here.
Oathar takes the wand and attunes to it but it seems to have no power
in this place. In another room are lots (7) of pictures depicting scenes
of various times of day. The nearby runes say "Manefest the power
of the wand of days." Oathar touches the wand to panel number
two (sunrise) which lights up.
When we go down the pedastal of the wand is glowing. We put the wand
back in the pedastal. Nothing seems to happen. Returning, the wand seems
charged with 10 charges of 50' radius light that lasts two rounds that
affects light sensitive creatures and vampires as if it were sunlight.
We save the Wand of Days charged with the light of the rising sun.
We wander around the city looking for things that change. We charge to
what we think is the last remaining unexplored tower.
A spire reaches up. It's made of crystal or something. There are stairs
cut into the side, so we start heading down. It's perilous, but we climb
down. Halfway down, we encounter the Murder of Negative Fundamentals.
Sigh. Peril.
Imre takes some Con damage, but finally manages to get out the Wand of
Days and blows a charge destroying all the bats.
We spend another hour to get down to the bottom of the tower. There appear
to be jackel headed ice golems guarding the passage which is covered with
an eye. Inside we find a bunch of undead encased in ice. Yeah. As we get
closer to them though, we find it's pretty cold in here. Brrr...
Kyrik tries to fall in a pit, but we save him. We use the last of our
Ice Armor scrolls as things are getting too cold again. Next we pass a
sigil of snakes covering a hole. After some fussing, Kyrik dives in. The
snakes attack him, but miss. Inside the hole is a platform. An ice sheathed
skeleton comes and greets us. "Ah, guests, it has been so long.
Allow me to be the first to introduce you to the last chasm!"
We fight the skeleton. We dive into the hole one per round. The skeleton
keeps trying to throw people off of the platform, and we discover that
the negative energy plane is right beneath the platform. Sigh. Eventaully,
Imre gets down and blows another wand charge on the skeleton killing it.
Well, there we are standing at the edge of the negative energy plane
again. Sigh. There's a landing and three protcullis (open). We teleport
over. Lot's of bars. When the bars fall away the flyer stands revealed,
it can bring you my way by the routes once concealed. There's an
unspeakable flying thing standing there. Ick. Ick. Ick....
It's shackled to the wall with a golden chain and big lock. It has a
sort of giant saddle thing. We climb on and unlock the chain. The thing
shuffles over and stretches its big black wings and takes off. If flies
off into the darkness.
The winds bear us high up into the black vapor and dives straight into
the center of the last chasm. Thankfully, nothing worse happens. We break
through some barrier and show up at the vast wall of blackness in all
directions. There's a small sparkle of light in the void between the worlds
and we wing towards it. There a stone face on the wall with a ledge for
a mouth. We land on it. We get off the horrible thing and there's a closed
door with a pull ring and the words:
Fortress of Conclusion
