In which our heroes ...
Orhan 2 Day 60 TE 6065
Alynna prays to Cay, and with a 228, he beams us all out with the lootz
and deposits us in Selkai, in our basement.
Praise Cay!
Alynna studies the shard trying to figure out if they fit together. She
thinks it probably fits together but isn't sure how.
Then Alynna heads off to pray.
Oathar prays that his skyship makes it home...
Imre goes off and finds Niaka, an itinerate devotee of Jon'no (the son
of Eissa who escorts the dead to/from the Gates of Oblivion). Imre wants
to know about soul-yoinking and the like after that last fiasco. He invites
him to dinner and we have a nice evening of it... We hear Niaka's news
from extensive travelling:
- The Nameless One has shown up in Kaitaine again.
- The volcano on the isle of fire.
- Sarnak has reduced the amount of trade it's been doing for some reason.
- Airbarge flights from Nomar Tol have been curtailed.
- Rumor has it that the Cult of Valris called the Brotherhood of the
Holy Word is opening a temple here in Selkai.
After dinner we adjourn to drinks for serious business. We explain about
Zanar and Nynaku being in league at the isle of fire. He explains the soul
yoinking battle and asks for advice... He also explains about the tragedy
of Vorndale...
He could show us some inklings of what the dark ones do and the like,
but only one of extraordinarily strong will can use these powers without
being corrupted. <Next time we get a level, Imre can investigate these
powers.> Suddenly his meter (the corruption point meter) goes one tick
to the left. Ack! What's up with that!
Orhan 2 Day 61 TE 6065
Oathar, Alynna, and the High Priest of Cay go to visit the Alchemist.
Alynna gives a powerpoint presentation about how bad this is. The Master
Alchemist indicates that the sphere was constructed by Tethior and could
take years to reconstruct.
We bring the high priest and the grandmaster alchemist back to the villa
to see the shards. The alchemist thinks they are very nice, but really
just can't do anything about them in less than years. The high priest senses
Nynaku's taint on the shards. He prays a bit and then suddely speaks in
a strange voice: "When the Herald of doom appears, seek the dead alchemist!"
Perhaps that means a night of the third moon instead of the Nameless one.
There's one of those at evil brother deadline day. Oathar is convinced
it means the Nameless One is secretly Tethior in disguise.
Orhan 2 Day 62 TE 6065
Oathar goes down to Kaitaine and asks about the Nameless one. Half the
people don't even think he was there. It's just a rumor with 17 conflicting
stories.
Oathar tries to go after this logically, and suggests we stake out the
Ilarsiri to find Tethior, since Tethior must be using something to predict
the future. We take up our list of known Ilarsiri and see...
- Master Ilarsiri Orbs: Storm Wizard, Griffin College, Karilon, Andraax
- Access Orbs: Halkitaine, Navigators, Prince of Selkai, Voorig Kye
Well, we'll just have to start asking. We start with the Storm Wizard.
We explain our crazy theory that Tethior is actually the Nameless one and
not really dead. The Storm Wizard thinks our hypothesis is plausible. He
grants our access to the master orb. The Storm Wizard warns Imre that the
master sphere can be dangerous to manipulate. If you are not careful, you
can lose yourself within it. It requires discipline and will to control
it.
We go down into the basement of his castle down the stairs to a big locked
door with seeral locks. Behind it is a blank wall which melts away before
him. Inside is a giant five foot diameter sphere sitting on a metal stand.
Imre steps forward.
After a bunch of meditation, he touches the master orb and goes for it.
"Where and when will the nameless one's next prophesy occur?" With
a 188, Imre finds himself floating in the void. Looking around he sees
Orhan. His viewpoint turns towards Kulthea, and approaches, and gets to
Emer. Then he must make another roll. With a 142, his viewpoint wavers
a little and then dips down towards southern Emer, ever closer. Southwest
Emer.... and another roll. With a 137, his vision stops and doesn't quite
make it further... another roll. With a fate point and a 205, his vision
presses through the barrier and swoops down onto an island south of Kaitaine.
There's a city there he doesn't recognize, but he sees the Nameless One
standing there in the middle of a square, in five days.
Now he must make a 3xSD-IN roll to escape its grasp. He rolls a 30. He's
happy to have found the right place and time. Suddenly way to the northwest,
he sees a pulsing. His viewpoint goes up there and he sees a giant ringed
island. His view leaps over there, and he sees a castle on a mountainside
on the island in the ring. His viewpoint zooms in through the castle. Sitting
there on a throne is a very pale skinned man with six fingers on each hand,
and the pusling Shadowstone on his chest. He looks up and says, "Yes...
Now you understand." Imre corruption point meter ticks down to almost Kyrik
level. He tires to resist Mentalism/Channeling. It doesn't go so well.
The Lord of Essence says, "I am Ondoval, your New Master.
In time you will come to love and fear me." His meter ticks
down past Kyrik. "Remember, ..." But then
Imre staggers and breaks away.
There's a palpable aura on him. Haeraan and Oathar cast dispel Mentalism/Channeling.
Haeraan, tries to take it from him, and Oathar doesn't. Haeraan twitches
for 10 seconds and stops. But his meter ticks down a little and he feels
tainted.
Haeraan officially revokes Imre's bitter cup and passes it to Oathar.
Meanwhile, Haeraan asks the Storm Wizard where to put an order sphere
near the new capital. "You have all of the necessary skills. I
would have to go there in person, but can not do that."
Imre reveals what he remembers of the vision and Kyrik identifies the
place as Itanis.
Haeraan has some dreams:
- How does Haeraan purge his corruption? There's a giant tromping along.
He's marching towards this village. The villagers are screaming. Haeraan
is standing there with a big flaming spear. He throws the spear at the
giant who turns away from the village and stomps on Haeraan instead.
- How does Imre purge his corruption? Haeraan's at a funeral. There's
a coffin and flowers that say, "In loving Memory of Imre", etc. There's
also a priest giving a eulogy, "Imre was always sacrificing himself for
others. When the time came to sacrifice his soul to save others, he did
not hesitate."
Orhan 2 Day 63 TE 6065
Oathar and Kyrik investigate essence flows on the outskirts of town not
terribly near anything.
Oathar checks out navigator costs and availability. Estimated travel cost
(5 jumps from Kaitaine to Itanis in three days) for 300 gold.
Oathar and Alynna go talk to Coran Maas about Itanis. As to the local
laws, "Don't plan violence, or think seditious, etc." He reccommends the
Boar's Head as a good inn to stay at. He says that envoys from the Alliance
have come and been persuaded to not be unreasonable.
