In which our heroes ...
Orhan 4 Day 35 TE 6065
It's almost dawn.
Haeraan and Alynna turn to falcons and stand on either side of the sun
disk. Imre casts Utterlight on the sundisk. The stone sarcophagus opens.
Within is a solid gold coffin. It also opens.
Inside is a mummy with a golden laen mask. He sits up with glowing yellow
eyes. He says in Gethryn, "Who disturbs my sleep..." He has a number of
amulets including the head of the staff of Ra. He's got lots of golden
loot all over him. Super-bling mummy.
Imre makes his impassioned plea. He rolls well, in Gethryn, and lays it
on the great king.
He reaches down and pats the falcons while Imre flatters and pleads.
"I sense you are not of this land. Why
must my land be rescued by foreigners?"
"The Alliance is tricky and make the people believe their yoke is light."
"Let me peer into your soul."
He examines Imre, Kyrik, Alynna, Haeraan, and Oathar. "I have looked in
your hearts, and though you have flaws, you mean well."
He reaches around his neck and takes off the head of the staff of Ra and
gives it to the falcons and waits for them to give it Imre. They comply,
floppily as they are oversized and not good at this.
"Very well, you have my blessings!" He casts a spell on everyone, "Contingency
Remove Curse" which will remove the first curse that is accidentally triggered.
"I return to my slumbers..."
The party teleports back to Imre's room in the village downstream.
Orhan 4 Day 36 TE 6065
It's dawn.
Kyrik teleports back to the capital and buys a lead box to keep the head
of the staff of Ra in. Then he teleports back.
There are runes on the staff head. The runes say, the head of the staff
is placed upon a measure six feet in length, while on the back side it
says and take away one to reserve for Hora. They're digging in the wrong
place!!!
Haeraan makes his ten foot pole a six foot pole. He'll chop off another
foot at the very last minute.
They plan to travel to the capital by heading down the river normally
in order to draw alliance suspicion away from the Valley of Kings again.
But as they approach the river, they notice Alliance troops questioning
everyone down there.
Haeraan sneaks down to the docks and casts a scry point to see what they
are asking people. The soldiers are mostly asking everyone for their papers,
checking their business permits, inspecting their packages, etc. Imre determines
that heading down there undisguised will result in a high energy situation.
Deciding are blown, the party decides to teleport back to the camels stashed
near the Canyon of the Kings.
When they get there, the camels are gone. People wait around in the desert
with Oathar's hand tents waiting for the daily workshift to end.
That evening they sneak in to the tent city. The meet up with Salah. "Do
you have it? Is it safe?" Tomorrow morning at sunrise we must take it to
the map room. Salah gets them tents to wait in for the night. They should
return to Salah's tent in the morning.
The camp is quite that night.
Alynna dreams about "The Way" that night. Oathar says that things are
going pretty well.
Kyrik dreams about a followup on the philosophical discussion from last
time. By which he means prostitution. It seems that trying to reform the
entire industry would be a lot of work. In this particular case, combining
two different issues into one. 1) Insuring that prostitutes have enough
power over their postions to insure they are not being abused. 2) Dealing
with the low state of education in general. He wants to found a school
and encourage the prostitutes to attend.
Imre also gets on the dream queue. Talk to me about Tradewind. Get Tradewind
back before you raise me.
Haeraan also asks for a dream about the map room tomorrow morning. Oathar
indicates that the staff tends to get a little excitable when used in the
map room. Especially the head. Don't linger there.
Orhan 4 Day 37 TE 6065
The next morning they meet Dr. Jones (Salah) and head to the map room.
They start lowering themselves into the map room. There's a map in the
canyon and a hole in the ground. They make a five foot staff and stick
it with the staff head into the hole. The searing beam of light indicates
a location along the canyon walls. Several guards come towards Dr. Jones.
Meanwhile the staff head is glowing uncontrollably. It then shoots an image
of itself out the hole and draws the Staff of Ra above the valley.
Dr. Jones drops the rope and runs. The Alliance guards come running. People
teleport to the tents. Well, Haeraan bounces. Alynna teleports Imre and
the staff head back to the tents. Kyrik and Haeraan teleport back to the
brothel. They regroup at the tents.
Imre takes the Staff Head of Ra, and attempts to teleport directly to
the Great King Mortu's burial chamber. He's arrive in the tomb. Imre turns
on curse-o-vision and looks around. He drapes the amulet upon the sarcophogus.
Then he returns to the camp.
It's being locked down, and all the workers are told to go back to the
camp. They rush around for a bit. They teleport out to a hill nearby to
regroup.
Then they long door over to the lip of the canyon and try to see what's
at the tomb spot in the canyon. They mostly see the right spot near a couple
of boulders. There are guards everywhere now. They teleport down to the
tomb point casting Non-Detect everywhere. Some stone sight would be helpful
at the moment, so Alynna prays to Oathar and gets it. They Passing True
through and end up inside the tunnel without digging.
Along the walls are the standard painting of the king defeating is enemies,
etc. Kyrik prays to Oathar to intercede with the guardian spirits. Oathar
tells the guardian spirit. The guardian spirit says that this is a terrible
plan. Oh dear. Good thing they've got curse protections. This particular
Great King was known as the cruel. They should probably grab the staff
and run if they get the chance, but really, they expect that the Great
King will be holding the staff.
Oathar chats up the Guardian spirits. The spirit is evil. He's the equivalent
of a guardian elemental but is a spirit. They slog onwards.
There's a big
wooden door with a pair of glowing eyes on the door. The door is evil and
hates the party. Oathar and the door spirit chat while the party attacks
it. Imre attacks it spiritually while Alynna just strikes to shatter the
door. It's resiliant.
The baleful eyes of the door glare against all. They are stalwart and
resist. Alynna shatters the left door destroying one eye, the other glows.
Imre Undoors the other door.
They head down to where the passageway branches. Taking the right hand
passage (after consulting the morningstar) people charge the next door.
It's evil. It almost gets them with their mentalism, but doesn't quite.
Alynna gets one of the two doors. Alynna dives through the hole she's made
to the other side of the remaining evil door. Imre splinters it.
They come to a stone door. Cursed, but no spirit. The burial room with
sarcophogus is beyond.
Alynna long doors through. As usual, there are piles of treasure everywhere.
Everyone teleports in.
Alynna levetates and godolas herself over to the sarcophogus. The writing
on the sarcophogus says, "The great king and his beloved staff rest here.
Disturb it not or suffer the pain of the fire of Hora."
They carefully pick their way to the sarcophogus. They flip the lid off
of the sarcophogus. inside is the golden coffin, with a golden lid. It
opens. The mummy sits up. He got the golden staff of the sun disk. His
eyes glow red.
The mummy stands and brandishes the staff. He's AT 20, DB 150. They fight!
"Burn with the fire of Hora!!" Fire goes everywhere! Luckily our heroes
are well defended against fire. (Having been prepared earlier.)
He says, "Your protections can not save you!" and casts dispell all with
his Arcane nonsense. But they resist.
So they beat on him some more and then get cursed from beyond the grave.
He tries another round of Dispelling.
Haeraan stabs him in the ear... His Eyes and Staff burst into flame. He
tries to destroy the staff. Oathar and Haeraan take a last shot at him.
Oathar having attacked him, gets smote by the flaming counterstrike and
heads back to Orhan. Haeraan takes a 10C fire and get conflagrated. Good
bye armor.
The staff falls to the ground unharmed.
