In which our heroes ...
Orhan 5 Day 32 TE 6053
We head out. We head down the spine of Emer until we get to the a pass
to cross over.
Orhan 5 Day 38 TE 6053
We get to Bokpentok. It's OK, we head on.
Orhan 5 Day 43 TE 6053
We get to Teterantor. We arrive in the late afternoon. Strangely, the
villiage appears very, very dark. The people are furtive and scurry from
place to place quickly. Hmmm, only a few hundred people in the town. Looking
around the skies, we see some bats and clouds. Hmm, they seem to be vampire
bats. Not really a vast threat. Wait, they seem to be bigger than normal.
They don't seem to be undead though. Strange.
We decide to head into town. Looks! It's an Inn. The bartender seems
dispirited, but has many empty rooms. He vastly overcharges and claims
it is due to the "bad times". When questioned, the bartender
says that people have been disappearing. Lord Tholen hasn't been seen
during the day for months. All proclamations have been made by the Lord
Secretary, and the Lord's son hasn't been seen at all for weeks. When
Lord Tholen does appear, it's only at night, and he always looks pasty
and pale. Loners like the widow Tyrell and farmer Davis have all vanished.
So did the priest. Seems like 10 people have vanished in the last couple
months.
We take the three best rooms in the Inn and sleep for the night. In the
middle of the second watch, Oathar's staff emits a high piercing sound.
He says that it is the vampire alarm. Looking outside, the party spots
three big bats thumping against the window. Haeraan says they are indeed
vampires. The bats seem to cast a probing spell to identify us. Imre retaliates
with Disruptions V and the bat closest to the window plummets to the Earth.
After a few rounds it staggers up and flies away. Another probe occurs
and then they leave.
Orhan 5 Day 44 TE 6053
The next morning, Haeraan asks the bartender if there's a mayor. The
bartender sends us down to old Barnabas, the mayor with the two story
house. "Who is it?" "I am Haeraan, Paladin of Rianne! I
wish to speak to his honor the mayor." The mayor comes to the door.
He's kind of unkempt and sleepless.
He'll be grumpy if we don't actually know what we're doing, but is willing
to give us a shot. He brings us into his house and grabs a bottle and
starts passing it around. It was a few months ago around the spring festival,
and the whole town rejoiced. There were even some bards in town. Soon
after that though, Lord Tholen shut himself up in his castle. He seemed
to be busy, but only came out at night. He was trying to figure out how
much money the town had. He decided not to spend the money on a new church.
He also wanted the holy symbols in town taken down at night. So now it's
a law. No holy symbols at night. The mayor and most other people mostly
ignored the law.
We head up to the keep and D. does a little scouting. We decide how to
invade. D. and Imre sleep the outer guards and we head in the back door.
Sadly, there are two more guards right in side, and one of them really
nails Kyrik.Vallandra knocks out the second guard. Imre works on Kyrik,
while Oathar sleeps the entire kitchen staff. Haeraan reports one vampire
on first floor and three in crypt. Upper floors and tower are clean. Haeraan
heads through the function room and sees a pale looking woman. Lo! She
is a vampire. Haeraan and Vallandra charge. Unfortunately, Haeraan is
distracted by some mouse or pixie or something in the corner of the room
and totally fails to attack her.
This is going to be quite embarassing in the morning. Imre gets attacked
by the vampire with her evil magics. She has him possessed by a demon.
Bah. Darn that vampire. Meanwhile, Kyrik finally gets his evil sword of
doom going and eviscerates the vampire.
It is done, but then Imre suddenly casts at Vallandra. Luckily, she is
denies his puny attempts to destroy her soul. It take about five rounds
to help Imre. Meanwhile, Vallandra has gone down into the crypt to encounter
the three vampires herself. The lord, his son, and an evil old woman with
an orb of darkness. Valiantly, she charges without backup, for she is
one of the stalwart companions. She strikes the old woman, who drops the
black sphere. It strikes the ground and shatters into a million pieces.
The black splotch where it hits starts pulsing and growing.
Suddenly, it stands up and reveals the fifth pale! On the other side
are two demons of the fifth pale with an electronic alter and a giant
electronic ring. They appear to have opened a gate using our black splotch
as a focus. One demon ssteps through and the combat comences. Oathar desperately
tries to shock bolt the equipment. Meanwhile the vampires mind control
Kyrik to kill Haeraan. Haeraan gets similarly mind controlled, but blows
a pile of fate points to get rid of it.
Meanwhile, the demon pulls a grenade which gets Leaving'd to the altar
behind the gate. Vallandra counters by pushing him towards the gate. He
doesn't quite get through, but she follows through with a shot from her
demon slaying sword. Knowing his wound is mortal, he draws the entire
bandoleer of grenades and drops it at his, (and Vallandra's feet.)
The grenades go off. The demon and the gateway are both vaporized. But
Vallandra is also caught in the blast. She is devestated by the attack
of six point blank fireballs! She staggers a step, falls, and dies.
After a heavy doom laden pause, chaos erupts. Oathar screams and plunges
two lightning bolts into the hearts of each of the remaining vampires.
Haeraan strike at the one left standing with Vallandra's name on his lips,
Imre unleases his fury upon the last vampire as D. readies an arrow for
its eye, and Kyrik turns to attack the party.
Haeraan staggering from Kyrik's mighty blow, finishes the vampire off.
Kyrik stands over the ashes confused, as Imre puts him out of his misery
with a merciful sleep spell.
The party stands amid the wreckage in stun until a gate opens and one
of the Angels of Death appears....
Here endeth the time of Vallandra, who died destroying a demon of
the fifth pale, forever sealing its gateway to our realm.
